Full classes of races, 2 divisions of each class, 500cc class, Low cost to race, the bikes were easy to work on.
Oh, and I also miss Motocross Action magazine arriving in the mail, even if it did take two months to get to Australia!

I miss standing beside my CZ and starting it. I miss how easy it was to work on too.

I miss my racing buddies kidding me about how slow CZ’s were. I took a mm or 2 off the back side of the piston, clean up and worked on all the ports. Threw the junk CZ carb in the trash and put a tricked out 34 mm Mikuni that came off a 250 road race bike, mechanic friend gave it to me and a hand full of jets and said go racking kid.

The list goes on.

One thing I don’t miss was that 1972-73 Suzuki TM250. Would throw you over the handlebars trying to start it. Bought it new off the show room, spent 6 months trying to jet it. It never ran clean and finally I gave up and traded it in on a CZ.

When I first started I had a 90 CR125. I complained and complained about the suspension (it’s worth noting that it DID suck, but my dad knew I wasn’t good enough yet to tell). We were at a public riding area and there was a guy on a 73 TM250. My dad had a short conversation with the guy and motioned me over. The guy hands me the bike and says “have fun”. Having raced through the 70’s, my dad knew what I was in for...

I returned a few minutes later, with a newfound appreciation for how good my bike actually was, lol.

I had buddies with TM400's they that swore they were thrown over the handlebars trying to start them I know my TM 250 would kick back like a freakin mule.

Lot of things changed since those days. Not all of it for the good. It was a simple time back then. You worked, went to school, played sports, rodeo's or raced where I came from. Some tried to do more than one!!!
