Hey guy's:

I need a little help, I don't know much about this Rm 465 & I'm helping a friend fix it up for his Dad who is the original owner.

It needs new plastic & maybe a gasket set & seals. If you have a line on any of these let me know.

Thanks

Howard

All the OEM plastic is still available through Suzuki with the exception of the right number plate. There has been a guy from Australia selling a load of them on ebay but it will cost you $120. Don't even waste your time looking for aftermarket plastic because it is all bad. Seals and gaskets are still available also.

I use to own an RM465. I can tell what it needs. First get stiffer fork springs or a fork kit. The engine in stock form is a little rich but is hard to jet correctly. I put a boost bottle on it and it really helped the engine to run clean and snappy. Rear Suspension was ahead of its time. Nice power. Back in 1981 it was the best 500 around.

Thanks Guy's

The RM does have a Boost bottle on it already, so that good.

I'll try & post some pic's as we go along.

I've been racing an 82 RM465 all year in the AHRMA Nationals, fun bike. I had never even ridden an old big bore 2 stroke before! I just bought the bike over the winter to give it a try. I agree that it has been hard to jet, but when you start getting it correct it rips! it's finicky and I have to adjust it almost every race.

Mine has some sort of fork kit in it that has a dial on the top of the fork that spins a rod going the length of the fork and turns the bottom of the damper rod to open and close oil holes. Never seen such a thing but it works pretty nice.

If you ride it alot your forearms will start to look like Popeye the Sailor!

The main reason those bikes are so hard to jet is because of the overly restrictive stock airbox. The best mod possible is to find one of the Twin Air single sided airboxes. The White Brothers also made an idle screw kit that was also a benefit to that bike.
If you want to make the forks really work well, the 43mm Yamaha internals will fit in the RM.

I'm thinking about trying a set for my '80 CR250. Anyone used them?

The Vintage Suzuki plastics I've gotten have all been nice and shiny. DC plastic is doll and textured like the old Maier plastic used to be. Not too pretty. But they do make a lot of different stuff that no one else does and it seems pretty durable. Just looks like ass. And I agree for the Honda's , VMX plastic is the good stuff.

Damn. I'm glad I asked, Thanks.
For a few more bucks I'll go with the shiny ones.
