1. Forgetting to turn the gas valve on at the starting line, only to take off with the hole shot to lose it when engine died.
2. Forgetting to put in first gear at starting line, only to be left at the gate and chasseing others.
3. Gas cap not properly tight, only to feel a cold burning sensation on your legs seeping through your leathers and your private area, because you were too involved in trying to lead. Finishing the race but the rest of the day in the bathroom trying to stop the burning.
4.Taking the wrong bike to the starting line, (only to have to make a mad dash back to the pits). I often would race in 6 different classes, and sometimes the all looked the same.
5. Thinking it is a good idea to try different ruts while underway in a race, other than the one you were comfortable in practice to pass only to find an endo over the bars.

good stuff smile

"3. Gas cap not properly tight..."

jeez, that burning sensation was well-known, and it wasn't due to the cap not being properly tightened - today's whippersnappers don't appreciate that a leaking gas cap was the norm back "in the day" wink . I used the foam doughnut around the filler neck, under the cap to at least slow down the flow of gas and hopefully minimize the amount that found it's way down to my crotch w00t

Get to the track without some important piece of equipment. A helmet or boots. I got to the track once without a chain. I knew exactly where it was though. On my work bench.

The older I get, the faster I was.

I had a friend that forgot his gas can once and one other guy who swore that his gear bag flew out of the back of his truck on the way to the track and borrowed spare gear from a number of people and he looked "different" with all the different gear.

Har! Ever have your bell bottom slide over the kick start lever and when you stopped at a red light you fell over because you couldn't get your foot off the peg? blush

Shoot, that is common, even today!
I did that last year at the Millville Amateur day, in the 55+ class.Blush
Most of my split lined up on the other side of the large dog house and I couldn't see them. At the last second, I couldn't recall what other class I was supposed to launch with, as I was in another set of motos with 50+/60+. Confused old man! ha.

I did it once back in '83. Signed up as a 125 B rider, and lined up between two A riders. Got keyed up and left on the first gate with the A's. 20 feet out of the gate , I say to myself, "aw shit". Immediately after that , I said, " Fugg It", let me see what the A guys got. Ended up third out of 13 riders not too far behind the first & second place guys (Brian McElroy and Donnie Delgado). Promoter would not let me ride with the B riders for the second moto. And would not score me as an A rider, due to the fact I signed up as a B. What a fucked up day I made for myself. .Silly
