I'm trying to clean out my stuff out of my parents basement and I ran across a bunch of my old MX trophies from the 1980's and 1990's. I really hate to throw them out, but I hate to keep them as well. What have you guys done with your old 'glory days' stuff like trophies? I've thought about peeling off all the trophy name/place plates and doing something with them. Should I just take them to Goodwill?

look for a boys & girls club, they could use them. I don't think goodwill has a use for em, maybe the Special Olympics, but locally in your area.

Believe it or not , they sell on Ebay. I bet professional practice riders and guys like Devin Davis are the guys who buy them.

Maybe some of the taller ones that are 3ft -4ft, I should get a new name plate that says something like "2011 Red Bud National, Lites Class First Place" and see if anyone bids on it.
What does the Boy's and Girls club do with them?

I put 10 of them on ebay a few years ago and sold everyone of them. To ship them just take them apart. I got about $170 for them.

Sell them or if a local dealer has helped you out let them have them, oh yeah give them a can of pledge for the dust. That way tou can point them out when you stop in and say "Hey that's mine!"

See if a local promoter wants them to recycle or use for a fun race.

Yeah, I already tried that. The local MX club was like " Yeah thanks for the offer, but no thanks".

I have everyone I ever earned. Mean way to much to ever get rid of.
At least pull off all the name plates and put them on a mat and frame.

Drove by a friends one day after he had moved out of his Dad's place. There were at least 60-80 trophies sitting there out front, waiting for the garbage man . I had to stop and take a look. So many memories came flooding back as I had been at many of those races where the trophies had been won.

I think Lee (ThePipe) has a jump on his track where he has a bunch of old trophies buried underneath it. It's called the " trophy " jump.

I still have a bunch hanging around. Many have self destructed.

I have thought about taking them apart, and constructing one huge trophy by combining them all together. Probably harder to store than a bunch of individual ones, though.

Between my old trophies and my son's, we probably have 175-200. If we chose to keep only the "important" ones, we'd have maybe 15. I keep thinking I will be able to build my 9500sq/ft shop someday with a trophy shelf around the perimeter that will hold them all.

I used to have a significant collection of 5th place. They didn't make the move from Iowa to Vegas.

I have a couple of dozen of my dads from the late 40s and 50s. Some of those metal tops are worth $20-40 a piece on ebay. I'm not sure the plastic ones will ever be worth anything but if you do toss them keep the tops.

Lee at "On The Pipe Racing" took all of his and buried them under one jump on his practice track, and calls it the Trophy Jump. (It's a very very small jump....Woohoo )

I'm really proud of my 3rd and 5th place trophies from the mid eighties and my 1st place surfing trophy from 1974.
I don't really need the shelf space in my garage yet ! lol

Garage sale back in the early 90's. Mom called, asked if I wanted "them".

Old trophy junk from the "80's".

Wish I had kept at least a few for the memories.

Boy I never thought about selling them. I gave all mine to the local track and the owner gives them out to the little guys on practise days and poker runs etc. The absolute best way to get rid of them in my opinion.

Man it is hard to believe how ungodly ugly some of the stuff we used to get for awards really were, isn't it?

Early in my racing days I saw a tip in a magazine to take a marker and record where, when, and how you got a trophy on the bottom. Glad I did that.

I am a promoter so I recycled a few of mine.

A few, like my first one, will go with me to the nursing home.

Others, ehhhh.

The real treasure you get in this sport is the friends you make and the memories you have.

My first, at 16. was an empty, dented, Coors can I was awarded as I crossed the finish of my very first motocross race. Wish I had kept it.
Now, that i am approaching 59, I keep the plaques I earn. All the trophies from years past, I never picked up or gave them to the neighborhood kids.

I kept about 80 that ment anything- Put them in the attic and they are still there. Going back to 1974. Guess I should get them out and put them on ebay/

I would keep them, for the memories and the sentimental value and to remind you of how hard you worked.

Hi, I am looking for old trophies with their original name, event, date engravings still on them for an art project. The more the better! So if anyone has any they don't want I will be happy to have them, and they will forever remain an artwork so you don't have to throw them away. I like keeping the memories alive...even if they are someone else's!

Hey Mansfeild2- I have 80 of them. What do you think they are worth? Dating from 1974 to 1992
