Old plastic question

I have been able to clean the plastic up on my 1986 YZ125 so that it looks pretty good. Although, it stains really easy. Dirt and grime does not easily wipe off. Do you think it would help if I buffed the plastic to make it more slick or is this just something that happens to old plastic?

Take it to a fine sandpaper, then buff it, then maxima sc1 or armor all....that's is good as it will ever be....

Thanks Sandman, I will give it a try. I planned on at least buffing it.
