Me back in 74 on mine. Got a Maico, Carrera 98's, Hi Points, Hallman goatskins in the DeCoster color way (black with the thin red and yellow stripes), those wonderful Hallman GP gloves (I'd still run them today if you could get the originals).

Everything but talent and speed Whistling Couldn't find those on the shelf at the local shop.

"The Maico Meister/The Silver Fox. Adolf Weil was a 14-time German National Champion and finished second in the 250 World Championship in 1973"

I had an adolf weil 400 replica. i won the western ahrma open class expert championship and the over 40 expert championship on it in 1993. great bike, and it only broke 1 time, lol i also rode my friends 501 and it was just ridiculous.

FYI, the 1974.5 was a “GP”, the AW’s were the 1976 & 1977 models.

Nothing better than breaking Berms and flying my Maicos in Rhodesia and America 79 80 81 nothing handled and turned like them and fine tuning the Mills made them bullet proof.

Yeah I like Maico too!

Only owned 5 of them over the years & worked on ton's more!

Still have 2 of my own & 1 that I'm working on for a friend.

When I recover from my accident I have a few Maico motors to fix for a Vital member from Texas.

Seriously, who doesn't want a Maico 490? Since I'm not dead I guess I still can.

Honey Lake, I think 2003.

This is the bike currently. I liked riding it, but not starting it.

They sure are sexy.

Levis, t-shirt, carreras, duckbill, downpipe with a pickle, and a broken wrist. Everything looks to be in order.

How good were production Maico's back in the day? How about Denny Schwartz finishing 2nd overall at the 1978 Mid-Ohio Trans-AMA ahead of DeCoster, Smith, Lackey, Tripes and the rest of the heroes? Sure, why not!

The late, great Doug Kohler. The boy was crazy and fast. One of the owner's of Professional Cycle Parts (PCP) here in Sacramento. There was a bunch of us riding Maicos out of that shop. Doug would stand next to a tight corner and yell at me when I rode by, "don't look back!". Fun times.
Here's a pic of our buddy Jimmy flying his Maico. You'll notice in the corner Doug and our buddy Joe both with broken wrists.

1976 Claverack NY. #145 on a 1975.5 250 five speed with the AW chassis mod preformed by National #98, Ed Moor. I was right there at the start and powered into the lead. Not the best Maico mechanic yet as I had many moto wins and almost as many DNFs. By 1977 me and my Red 1977 did not have a single ham fisted DNF.

Magoo didn't ride the international class at the 79 USGP because he didn't qualify. He did have enough points to qualify for the 250 support class. Nobody had seen him on a 450 yet. Everybody was a little scared of that.

ah, yes, that's it. the guy i saw with the jersey on the 70's had a maico and i think he rode in the pro class and was fast. i think i knew his name then but can't remember it right now.

if you raced in so cal, what is your name?

is that photo of you from saddleback? it kinda looks like the double jump on the back straight but i don't remember a tree there. there was a tree at the end of the next straight though were there was a 90 degree turn going uphill towards the parking area.

Barrnett 468,

I answered those questions on 9/18 in the moto related thread about Saddleback closing.

Thank you. Never really found any speed until my early 20’s and started signing up exp/pro around that time. Unfortunately I will not be able to make the Cal-Vmx at Perris on Oct 13th.

Catch ya around!
