Look forward to seeing this happen.
Ore those bars original? They're very funky.
The '83 (was sold in the US as 84's) can be tough because it doesn't share parts with the '85 and newer models. Luckily though they actually sold a decent amount of them and you can find parts. Let me know if you have any questions. If you're not already get on the Cagiva Facebook page....tons of guru's on there (mostly Italian) and lots of pictures and helpful info.
I raced a 200 back in the day in cross country and hare scrambles, they would destroy anything else in it's class.
Few goodies I've picked up
The Shop
Cool stuff. Where did you get that pipe? Most of the 190 Cagiva pipes just looked like 125's with no turn out of the cylinder.
I built a cone pipe for my 125 but it's pretty crude...I'm still on the search for a good one or having one built.
Bunch more stuff on the way from Italy and Team Cagiva.
The only parts that will be a PITA are the spokes and the shock.
I had the '87 and wasn't that bad..
go 4 it!
I'm wondering if I possibly got a set of 190 cases? The problem is that the cylinder stud spacing is different. The studs in the new cases are 95mm across and 84mm front to back. The old cases are 86mm across and 86mm front to back. The studs in the old cases are 37mm high(all four) and the new cases are 37mm high in front and 59mm in back.
I was hoping you could measure yours sometime and let me know what your dimensions are. I'm guessing I will be on the hunt for a 190 cylinder...which isn't a bad thing...but going to be more time and money.
The 125 cases have the long rear stud. Did you rebuild the crank? I don't think 125 crank will work with 190 cylinder. Same rod but crank halves are different, plus pistons and rings for the 190 are unobtanium. I have several sets of NOS 190 cases.
and an 88 125
My stock 125 studs are all the same. On the new cases (that I suspect to be for a 190) the rear studs are higher. My 125 cylinder goes right on the old cases but will not on the new cases with the higher rear studs.
with my cheapy digital calipers i read center to center-
short studs - 95mm on rear, 90 mm on front, 85mm front to back
tall studs - 87mm rear, 90mm front, 85mm front to back
I could have flubbed a measurement though.
If you look at the picture of my 200 motor you can see the studs are all the same. A 200 base gasket will fit the short studded cases but not the long studded case. I googled some pics of the 83 WMX125 and it shows the long studs on the rear. I'll call by buddy and have him check his 83 WMX125 also.
Edit to add Info - 200 parts manual shows all the same numbers studs, 125 manual shows 2 different numbers.
Is the bike you're working on the one in the pic above?
Pit Row
never seen one or even a pic with the cylinder studs all the same size....?
You're absolutely right. I looked at pictures and looked up part numbers. The old cagiva mechanic who's working on my engine had the info crossed in his email.
I got nos 190 cases that were labeled with the 125 part number. Now I dont know what to do? I guess I need to find a set of usable 125 cases. You don't think I could use the 190 top end?
How is it coming along? I imagine parts must be impossible to find.
Need the rm ready for Athens in 3 weeks
