Longevity of reed valves?

How long do reed valves typically last? I hear a lot of people say they replaced the reed valves and saw a power increase. Obviously their valves need to be replaced.

I think it’s an “inspect & replace” as needed, frayed edges, warped, or a gap in sealing surface to the block would indicate replacement needed. Of course if a set is 10,20,30 years old, usually better off replacing them.

Thanks, I think I will just go ahead and replace mine on my 1986 YZ125. The bike sat for 5 years. Before that it was ridden for years without replacing them by the previous owner.
