I got extremely lucky this week. Called on an ad that had a photo of an 83 YZ100 and an 81 YZ465. The ad description said "1981 yamaha big wheel for sale, so I emailed the guy and he calls me the next night and says "I am only selling the big wheel in the photo which is a 1981 YZ100." I told him I wasn't interested in it but I was interested in the other bike in the photo but couldn't tell exact;y what it was, so he told me that bike was his 1981 YZ465 that he had since he was around 18 (and he is now around 56) but he wasn't selling it. He then told me he was going in for rotator cuff surgery in the morning and he was never going to ride it again so he asked his brother if he wanted it and he said no. I then told him that I was extremely interested in it that he could call me if he ever decided to sell it. He then said he would think about it and give me a call the next day after he got out of surgery. He didn't call so I texted him and wished him a speedy recovery and restated that he could get in touch with me if he ever decided to sell it. The next morning he calls me and said he would sell it and that I could pick it up the next day (which was today) at his shop. He then says he has the titles and figured out that the 81 100 was actually an 83, so I told him I would look at that as well since I was going there anyway.

I got there and he rolled both bikes out and after I looked at them he told me what he wanted and I then asked if he could take another $100.00 off if I bought both and he said yes, so I bought both of them. During this time he also told me that his brother had a 1980 YZ465 and he still occasional rides. I then asked him if he had the original tank for the 465 and he said he would call his brother and ask. While I was loading the bikes up he comes over and says that his brother did not have the tank but that he just said he was going to sell his 465 also and told me what he wanted for it, so I told him that I would buy that also, so he said he would have his brother contact me soon.

lol, well the last thing i wanted after being so lucky was to be unlucky and have them fall off the trailer.

i wasn't planning on riding the 100 but now i have decided to give it a try in the calvmx stock 100 cc class and maybe for scott burnwurths mini madness race.

i have been racing my 1980 yz250 in the gp1, gp2, and open class but its hard to keep up with the newer $9,000.00 450's and the big bore vintage bikes, which is why i bought the 465, although at my age and in my condition, it will be way more than i can handle, so i might ride it once and decide it wasn't a good idea, lol. i also wanted an 81 specifically because it has bigger forks and a steeper steering steering angle and a more controllable power band with more low end then the 80 model.

Nice Haul !
Thanks, I consider myself extremely fortunate and lucky to get these, AND, his brother called me up this morning and told me he would sell me his 1980 YZ465, so I just now got back from picking it up. It has been a very good Christmas for me indeed!

I like the red and whit look. The one i got today is white and black. I may do it red and white with red fork boots and possibly a red seat cover.
