Last few months I have been thinking about riding a bike again a fair bit, don't get me wrong I still love racing sidecars but finding practice tracks etc that take them is hard work and with my Wife and Son both now riding, my Dad coming out to play on his BSA and my brother riding his YZF400 and building a full moto XR400 another bike seemed logical.... I thought long and hard about a KXF450 but it would only lose money and as I have 2 KX500 powered sidecars I decided on a Sean Collier Fasthouse inspired KX500.....

So last Wednesday evening I drove an hour and half north into Derbyshire and picked up this beast.....

It's sprung for somebody who weighs about half my weight so need to get both ends sorted, has an FMF spark arrestor silencer so I have ordered a pro circuit tail pipe to match the pipe, I have put a new set of bars on, added the hand guards and given it a once over with the spanners today..... It's the middle of winter here in the UK so I won't be out on it for 6-8 weeks but I can't wait to see how it rides!!!!!!

Let's see you guys 500s, I know a few of you on here are into them.....

That fuel tank is fibre glass, it was made by a previous owner for enduros, we only use that bike once a year for a beach race, running in deep wet sand for over 3hours.

Not 100% sure on the year, the guy I bought it from imports them from the US and has loads of them, he pointed to them and said that's 92 that's a 91, that's a 95 and so on.... lost track by the time I picked one out of the bunch... It's an early 90s one though, 18" back wheel but later than the blue forks, 93/94ish I think.
Post man dropped this off today!!!!

No the bike wasn't on eBay, the guy does have a nice one on there though, mostly original, near Derby.
Silencer came from eBay though, DocWob.

Very cool. I like the idea of getting a kx500. I just might need a knee brace to kick it over. I added it to my bike bucket list when I saw that evo makes a kit to replicate Emig's 1996 kx500

I'm also just curious if anyone knows what kind of gas tank is on the bike below? It looks so much more comfortable than the stock ball buster.

*Edit, I was half asleep and realized what they did. They took a gas tank off an 89 kx250 to give it that flat design.

No it came from a guy in Derbyshire in the UK, he imports bikes from the US, Richard something I think, I forget his surname.

I had the privilege of riding this very machine recently (my friend bought it after Farleigh). Sooooo much power, but extremely smooth and quite usable. I was frightened by it to be honest, and wouldn't want to ride it on a very rough track, but I found myself going deceptively fast despite the bike feeling like it was hardly being worked. The feel of it was not like other evo bikes; the suspension, controls and handling all felt very modern. A KX500 is now on my bucket list, and if DocWob builds another I might just bite the bullet and be done with it.
