Finally have a start to a restoration I have been after for years. I have some more that's not in the picture and even a few doubles. I need a tank, both wheels, an air box, pipe/silencer and small stuff. If anyone has parts or leads to some. It would be greatly appreciated. Also have parts to trade.

My brother had a Cooper 250 MX, an earlier model of the Ammex. Used Yamaha YZ piston, he destroyed it & burned it at a Bon fire party! I give him hell over still today, who burns their bike at a Bon fire party? Total jackass....10-15 yrs ago Gary Jones was at a Southwick vintage reunion, I told him my brother owned one, he laughs & says " sorry" ....MXA did a write up on them a while back, I"ll post a photo if I can find it...they were Red correct?

Good story. We burned a few ratty jap street bikes back in the day at Unadilla. Yes red, but early ones were blue.

PN24716,

I'll see if I can get one of the guy's I ride with to call Gary Jones & see if he knows where any parts may be found.

Give me until Monday, I don't know if he'll show up at the track this weekend.

They still had a like new 250 with bad trans. that at that time he wouldn't sell..I was going to buy one back in 78-79 but Don Jones told me they were having trans problems they were tryin to get straightend out so being I was a teen with limited budget bought a 250 Husky instead ...

Yup!

My Friend was with him from what one of the other local guys here in Houston told me.

I'll see what I can find out this weekend.

Huh, I had to look that one up! Rare bird indeed... but a cool piece of moto history. Good luck finding all the parts and keep us posted.

Just called Jones... he doesn't have anymore AMMEX parts. He said his dad sold all the parts to some guy in Ohio about 10 -12 years ago.

Making progress on tracking down parts. I now have just about everything I need except a metal tank and an air box.
Learned my first pipe is not the correct one. Even got lucky getting an aluminum swing arm which I believe is a Thor? With 3 frames and all different. I'll slap it all together rough first to get the lay of the land so I learn what needs what and goes where.

Thanks sandman, completed that resto a few years ago. I had one in the mid 80's and picked this one up about 10 years ago.

There's a Gary Jones interview on Whiskey Throttle if anyone is interested, good stuff. So I guess this is where the "Jones bend" Can-Am handlebars came...
