Not that I need or want another project but I came across this little bike for $250. I don't know anything about these other than they are Italian made. I've got no real details, but supposedly it ran recently and obviously needs work. Thoughts...is it worth $250?

That little guy is a 1983 Italjet M5F. It appears to be all there for the most part, just needs a full resto. If you are thinking its more than you want to mess with, send me a PM.....

Thanks...Any idea what it would be worth in restored condition?

Truth, not much. I’m not knocking it at all, and I’d actually love to restore it just to have in my shop. I raced Italjets when the pee wee class was brand new back in the late 70’s, and had several. So, I just have a real soft spot for the little rippers. Ted Moorewood built some quick ones back in the day, and I’ve got a few goodies from his shop to add to one of those. In all honesty, I wouldn’t think it would bring as much as a new PW 50, simply because by the time this model was introduced, the YZinger had already been on the moto scene for 2 yrs and the dominance of it had taken over. It would be worth something to someone with a soft spot for it.

And by the comparison to a new PW, I’m basing that number on your little bike being fully, properly, restored.

Doubtful it could be fully, properly, restored for the price of a new PW. I started with this.Photo
$3K later, I had this. Have had it since 1970, second new bike ever.

You’re exactly correct. It would be a money pit to me, but a labor of love nonetheless......
It would be a timepiece that would have a good home!

Thanks for the info guys. I guess I should have been a little clearer in my initial post...this bike is for sale not too far from me for $250 and it caught my eye as a potential project. I didn't buy it but will take a hard look at it and go from there. In talking with the seller, I could probably take it for $200 but can easily see a properly done, full on restoration costing 10x that if not more based on parts availability or lackthereof. Plus, I really don't need another project...my RM125 project is still in pieces sad

One can buy nice PW's all day long for $400-$500 in So Cal and I actually had one a while back that my youngest rode for a while. Once he outgrew it I put new plastics on it and sold it for $200 more than I paid for it.

Dad...if I don't buy it and you are in fact interested, I'd be happy to put you in contact with the seller.

Project Racer...that little Indian is very well done, I can see the time, effort and $$$$.$$ you put into it.

I'd be a sucker for it. I love misc old mini bikes (mini moto bikes, not true mini bikes like the Briggs style)

Italjet made the little Indian dirt bikes. At first glance I thought this might of been a mm5a model (which for the Indian brand was known as the Bambino).. but dadofagun sounds to have a better eye than I do! If he's correct about the M5F model, then yea good luck finding parts. Hell, I googled it and barely found any mention of it let alone resources, photos or parts. Italjet actually had a pretty wide model offering of different small displacement bikes.

If it were me, I'd grab it for $200 all day. Either source parts over the years as you can find them, or hang onto it for swap meet material. Then again, California is chalked full of neat bikes that are much harder to find here on the east coast

That is a more desirable little scooter. My dad got me one for my 3rd birthday,
it took me over 20 years to find another one.Photo
