I have the original 36 year old electronics which did run the bike in the past. Looking for options and opinions if any other systems from newer bikes would convert over and be an upgrade if even possible? Is the stock electronics sufficient or what about running a PVL for better performance ? The cylinder has some port work and the boost port is now fed from the main intake like newer designs instead of being fed from the small tunnels that connected to the secondary transfers, the carb will be a 34mm TM since my air stryker won't clear the cases, I still have the stock carb, stock pipe and a DG pipe, and the reed cage is from a 2003 KX125 with the stock carbon reeds and air foil. This is just a fun project trying different things nothing else, whether it runs good or not who knows. Any opinions on ignition appreciated!!
That's an 81... isn't it?
I just got here so forgive the late response.
Very nice for a "simple" restoration. I'm in the middle of 3 of them (sigh). Hence me showing up here. It's getting very hard to find these 40 year old parts now.
I did not search through to find the correct item, but take a look at these guys:
Electrex World

HPI

I have used the Electrex products on a covey of British Four Strokes with good success. As well as a Honda and Yamaha. These are all on Vintage MX bikes.
The HPI product is used a lot on the 1970 on MX bikes that I see.
Good luck and nice job on the rebuild!
I've used the HPI on a PE250 and have one on a 94 GasGas that uses the TM Racing engine. I like them and really find adding the extra flywheel weight they offer is a good thing on any bike, 125s included.

anything that you could do to get rid of the stock stator would be worth the investment to me. Ive had them fail
no, look at the reed set up. Its different between the years.
