I was at my first race in years last weekend at Byron Illinois. It was at the Racer X Vet series (old guys on modern bikes). Nearly everybody was on 4 strokes. To me it sounded like a tractor pull out there. The soul was just gone. Is there something missing or is it just me?

The last 4 stroke I rode was my 1966 Honda step-thru Trail 90.

Not dead yet. There was a Maico at the top of the hill. THe guy didn't race it but ran it in the morning. Man it sounded awesome. there was also 1 guy that had a CR500, whatever year was the last year they made it. I can't rememebr what class he raced.
You need to come to Houston & join in hte Evo-Vintage races, you'll be able to ride your 2 stroke race bike in a number of diffrent calsses.
I'm still racing my Maico's & having a blast.

Do I know you from Saddleback? What years are you talking about? Did you know the Aplings from Santa Ana?

Terry:
I raced from 74' until late 82' & worked for Bel-Ray from 79' till mid 80' when I left for the Fire Dept.
I don't remember the apling's, but I'm getting old. I do know Mike Bell, the Gillman's. Bob Ellott & Clark Jones & a few of the other pro's as I grew up with some of them.

Why don't you send him the invite, you know him better than I do!
Scent and all.
Well this is my first poat here, but I too ride a 250 2-smoker, and would not be caught dead on a 4 stoke. I don't race, just ride for fun now that I am 38 Y.O. $-strokes are definately the wave of the future, just don't see one in my future " title="Smile"> .
Every time I go out to a race I have to go home and start up my old beater TM 400 just to get the sound of the four strokes out of my head. With all the fun bigmaico and the boys seem to be having in the pics on their site, I may have to do a restoration project and get back out on that beast.
It's really scary how fast things have changed. There were only 2-3 of us smokers in a sea of coughing, popping lawn mowers.

Are you Nutz! Riding a TM 400 is a death wish! unless it has an TS ignishion & a diffrent frame!
Might be time to look for some thing else, I know where there's a 83 Honda 480 that's race ready & it's in Houston!

You will be glad you did. Those TM400's sound so good.
