I can't remember any test results on them. They were the last of the yellow YZ's though so that should count for a little something.Smile

He is in Sweden, they were never yellow there, unless this bike came from the U.S.

RJ won the 250 National Championship on a production bases 1984 YZ250 with Ohlins shock and Simons anit-Cav forks. I'm sure your could find Yamaha Wrench report on the motor.

Last YZ I owned before switching to Kawasakis. From what I remember it handled well and was a reliable bike. The Ohlins shock must have been the thing to do as I recall also having done that. Was the first year I started racing 250's in SX.

I also raced the '84 YZ 125 outdoors. That bike will go down in history as one of the worst and influenced my switch to the KX. Although Mike Beier finished 3rd OA in National's on the '84 YZ that year behind Ward and O'mara. All I know is mine was slow no matter what we did.

Compared to 1985 they were real close in design. In fact my 125s are 84 and 85. Real close with minor changes; obvious the drum front brake changed to disc and yellow/black to white/red. I guess that you plan to race post-vintage. Seen several do that just fine.

Yamaha made a quantum leap with that bike. The 83 was fast handled funny and would fall apart in a stiff breeze.
The 84 was fast handled well and was stone reliable
