DISCLAIMER: I know pro circuit/team peak/honda did not exist in 1989. I am NOT building a replica, just building a EVO wich could have been the 1989 peak bike (i hope
)
About 3 years ago I started racing the Dutch EVO class on a honda CR250 1989.
This is how I bought the bike
After racing it for a few races (and buying lots of parts for it ) it looked like this:
I raced the bike like this for 2 seasons, and the bike was beginning to show it:
So I decided to give this bike a break from racing, and build a new race bike. I already collected lots of parts and 3 spare bikes, which were already partially teared down for keeping my main bike race ready. (welcome to EVO class racing :+ )
So I spent numerous evenings and weekend days in the shed building my new racebike leading to this result:
Raced this bike for 2014 season, but got injured (ACL) so with the spare time I got started tearing down the old race bike.
Thought a few days about what to do with it, did not want the usual 'red honda' as my other bike had that layout already.
Then came across this picture of a Peak CR500 built for Georges Jobe, and thought it would be cool te make a CR250 team peak bike.
The fun part, spending money getting parts and graphics :D
Got the plastics:
Got the graphics:
Accidentally found blue side panels, not sure if I will use them:
Result (will use a bit more decals to replicate the peak look later)
As you may know there is no white tank available for a '89 CR250. Using a cr500 tank was an option, but did not like it. So the solution was:
Get an allumium tank made by a friend of mine which also races Dutch EVO class.
Final Result:
Really pleased with the result:
So, on with the engine.
Got the broken head stud out, in the meantime a mate of me got the cracks in the frame welded
Got a few :+ bolts replated
Result:
Got allumium radiators and new hoses
And got the engine blasted:
And a set of clear honda racing covers to go with it
Replaced the engine bearings:
Including the waterpump seals/bearings:
Got a fresh Con-rod and smallend bearing
Assembling the engine:
Cases closed (gray sprocket cover instead of the default black)
Cylinder assembled
Waterpump cover, new ball bearings and a new governor bearing. And a few more OEM bits to finish the engine (new HPP activator included)
Assembling the clutch side, new bearing, new clutch plates.
Engine closed (without a piston, waiting for it to arrive). Carb is ultrasone cleaned, new bolts an hoses.
Well, thats it for now. Hope you enjoyed watching it.
Will post an update with more nice parts this afternoon.

Even better when it's a bike that's going to be used properly.
Considered a peak replica myself for racing. Would make people sick to see it being used, instead of sat in someone's study just to be looked at.
Front fender brace (not sure if I will use it)
And a Translucent front plate
The Shop
Mounted the silencer
Picking up the powdercoated frame tomorrow, so will post an update.
Got the piston in today
Picked up the frame, and drilled holes in the piston to lubricate the exhaust bridge
And checked how the Pro circuit pipe looked
More tomorrow
Mounted the pipe & silencer
And the headstays+ignition stuff
Cleaning the swingarm and removing the bearings
More tomorrow
You might want these instead of the paint!
Pit Row
Well done!
Genuine team peak bar rol and some small bits for the chassis
fresh swingarm bearings&seals, and fresh steering stem bearings
