Simon -- try the Dutch guys, Dirk Timmer and RedElsinore on eBay. I have done business with both, each are great sources for parts. Also try posting an ad on vintagebikeads.com and in Mark's Vintage Swapmeet.

I had an '86 CR250 that was a labor of love, built for me by Marc Shade. I put a lot of $$$ into that bike, it really turned out nice -- I thought (none too modestly) that it was one of the nicest '86 CR250s-- until I saw the amazing work done by jtracing on his MXdN replicas. Strongly recommend you join his group on FB, I don't know of anyone with more knowledge about these bikes.

StevieD is also a great knowledge base-- he's a machinist and fab guy who does super hi-end work. He's got an ongoing '86 build here on Vital that's unbelievable. Try searching for it.

Man, do I miss that '86! Oh well, I can live vicariously through all these cool builds that are going on, 30 YEARS after the bikes won everything there was to win for Team Honda. Good stuff to re-live, and I was there for it when it happened!

Sounds like a bit of a gamble on the waterpump.

There are several threads there about the outer clutch cover rot and repairs for this. It's possible, but it is a pain to do right.
