That's cool, good for you getting a 490 on MXA, I think those guys hated 490's haha
Speaking of scoops I had a bunch made out of carbon fibre, look just like stock, i wonder if anyone would be interested in having one.

For some reason I'm attracted to the 490, just like I am to attractive women with unusual features or big noses. I think they are great bikes if done up right, kind of offbeat but cool. Someday I may have one.

Classic, Big nose chicks are like YZ490s, too perfect!! And when you say usual features do you mean like a woman who is "sane"? I am highly attracted to the sane female but its like the unicorn. Highly desirable but almost impossible to find!!

hahaha ! Yeah a sane attractive feminine balanced cool empathetic woman with a good work ethic is like a YZ360 factory bike, once you find one they are a keeper. So yeah a unicorn for sure. I see the odd one but they are either taken or 20 -30 years younger than I am..

That thing must be a flat track model as there is absolutely no front brake stuff apart from a disc

There's an '86 local to me for 600 but without title which is a real pain in Qc, almost impossible to get a plate to make it usable, even off road or for hauling out in the open. The frame is red however, so yeah this one was rattle canned it seems. Is that your 490 in your avatar pete24 ?

5 or 6 K, seems to be a common statement round here lol !

Here is one of the scoops, they are a bit expensive, $140, but I have seen NOS stock ones go for up to $200 on ebay so I guess it's all relevant. I wanted something cool but stock looking for our Team International Air Hammer bikes, so I had them made, I have a couple left but I can also get more done if there is a need.

I can't ride my 490 fast enough for the scoop to make a difference. But I keep it on there "for looks" hahaha

I dunno if a scoop makes any differnce, I know on Bradshaw's WR500 that he rode in '91 that they didn't run one, and that was probably the hardest ridden 490 motor ever. But a scoop looks cool and is how they left the factory but NOS ones seem to be unobtainium, so I figured getting carbon fiber ones would look stock but with a subtle modern twist.

Agreed, $140 is a screamin deal for a trick scoop. I wonder how durable it is. More than the plastic stocker?

I've dumped my 490 on the left side more times than I can count, but the scoop hasn't gotten torn off like I expected.

I thought they were worth it based on what NOS ones were going for, also the fact that we were going racing the bikes would have made it a bit silly to find a new NOS scoop and then use it when they are so expensive and rare. But not everyone thinks that way so I'm sure some people will think that the price was hi but it was worth it to us.
They seem durable enough, the bikes only did 8 motos each at Farleigh so its not like they have a ton of time on them, I would think that plastic was probably more durable than carbon fiber just because carbon fiber is harder and less pliable but they still looked good when we were done, so normal riding didn't mess anything up.
