Beautiful works 250 Maico that the late Gaylon Mosier raced to finish 3rd in the 1977 Supercross Championship and 10th in the 250 Nationals. Owner: Gary SoCal Maico - 2020 Langston Motorsports Bike Show
It was an earlier model bike than this one featured - 74.5/75/76?
MXA had a group of pictures of a race start line, with a few Maicos lined up . One rider - perhaps it was an MXA tester? - couldn't get his Maico fired up. Gaylon was on the line beside him, got off his bike, and casually started the other riders Maico, then got back on his.
Then, they were off.
I'm pretty sure, with Gaylon getting the holeshot.
It's just stuck with me - Vale', Gaylon Mosier.
Thanks for putting those pictures up, tmphotoart .
I got invited to go riding with some of them when they were back there, and Gaylon was one of them. I told him I was having trouble with the RH crank seal leaking on my AW250, and he told me that they used a triple-lip seal from a Suzuki on the Wheelsmith bikes. I asked him if he knew the part number and he said no, but to give him my address and he would send it to me on a postcard or something. A couple of weeks later an envelope with the seal showed up in my mailbox along with some Wheelsmith stickers.
Top-notch guy! RIP Gaylon.
