I was looking at Craigslist for a 125 Evo bike for my better half and I stumbled across this little gem. It's 1983 RM125 with what looks like about 10-20 hours on it. It's 100% original down to the grips and it looks like the tires have never been off the rims. The bike has never even seen a tool on the chain adjuster bolts. The list of things I need to fix/replace is pretty short. The tires are dry rotted. The front fender is faded. The silencer is bent and rear fender dinged from a loop out. The bars are slightly tweaked but I think they can be straightened. Apparently the loop out was the reason the bike spent 27 years in storage. A deep cleaning with a suspension/chassis service and Carrie has herself a new 125 Evo racer for the fall. She's stoked.

I really could use the money, lol. We have to see if Carrie can wrap her head around an old pipey 125 before it goes anywhere. She's been on a 150R for three years but that bike is pretty easy to ride.

Thanks guys. I was reading an '83 MXA RM/YZ test on Lee's OTP site and it said the 83 RM got a heavier crank and was easy to ride. Sounds perfect for the little woman.

Apparently. It's usually the big open bikes that get stored away after the first loop out crash, so you see nice ones pop up quite a bit. Old 125's usually have 100's of hours on them so one that's not been ridden seems to be pretty rare.

I go at it a few different ways for parts. For specific OEM parts, I'll search the actual part number. For largest list of auctions I'll just type in bike model, ie. RM125, and peruse what what has recently been listed and what auctions are ending. Ebay has a function that allows you to narrow that by years, but I also include the years "not specified" button. You can also search the model and year but you'll miss some stuff that way.

Me either, and im always on the lookout for good deals, the other day was coming back from a small town, and at a pawn shop was a 2002 YZ250, so i stopped and looked at it was thoughly trashed,, ie tires were chunked, no knobs from riding it either on the road or in rocks, needed chain and sprokets, plastic was horrible, fork seals were leaking, i pushed the kick starter down to see if it had any compression, it didnt, so it either needed a fresh top end or worse, so i went in an asked about it, they wanted 1450$ i was ok thanks and left, went by 2 days later, and the bike was gone, so some one wanted it.

Anyways great find CamP , and hopefully your mrs has great fun on it

LOL, I guess I should have. Right now I have it stripped down to just the rolling chassis and bottom end. Everything looks great except the inside of the radiator has some heavy lime deposits. I'm soaking it in vinegar overnight and hopefully that will do something.

I love when that happens. At least the one time it happened to me I loved it.

It seems like it happens to Newmann a lot.
