Choosing a bike for vintage series

Edited Date/Time 11/30/2013 6:30pm
Im thinking of building a bike to race a few rounds of the vintage series next year. It must be 1998 or older and a 250 because Im over 200 pounds. I'd like to ride the newest bike I can so Im mostly looking at just the 1997-98 line-up.

So I guess my question is which bike would you choose? Id like to get one that was decent in its day (chassis and suspension wise) but can also still find parts for. Thanks for any tips guys

I was wondering what racing organization has a vintage class for 1998 models, they seem a little new?

The 97/98 KX250 was the best bike during that period.

Our club has a 94-03 class. It's very popular.

I'll let you know how my 97 KX250 rebuild rides in a few weeks.
But back in those days, the bikes to have were 96 CR or KX, 97/98 KX. The CR took a step back with the gen1 alloy frame. The YZ250 was a good base too.

I seen it on facebook. A friend of mine owns Russell Creek and I seen they were holding a round. Most of the other events are fairly close to me as well

I have a pretty low hr 96 KX250 with updated 97 swing arm. Bike needs nothing, race proven in the AMA vintage 2012 series . I'm close to you also (Cincinnati, Ohio)

Vintage is mostly 1974 and older.

You might be talking PV, or Post Vintage.

Doesn't AHRMA run anything close to you?

Decade class or Double Decade (Dos XX) classes are popular with some vintage clubs. AHRMA will wait till someone else does all the work and then include those classes.

Newly rebuilt shock with new spring, newer renthal sprockets/chain, rebuilt the forks using Nos seals/dust seals, new forks springs/older factory connection valving, IMS pegs added the PC pipe/silencer this year also. Forgot new clutch plates, Pro-Circuit links. Great bike just need the room. (1,500.00)
