CR125 Clutch waterpump cover

Edited Date/Time 8/22/2021 5:13am
Hi all, I run a small cnc engineering company in my spare time and it's pretty much bespoke motorcyle parts I make.
I have received a request from a customer to manufacture some billet aluminium clutch and waterpump covers for a 1985 CR125 to replace the heavily corroded magnesium ones he has, and was directed by the owner to this site to see if there is any more interest?
I also would be very interested to hear which years this would fit i.e. '84 and '86 etc.
So if there is any interest in these, please post here and also post any other info that may be useful.
Also we are aiming to make this from aircraft grade aluminium 6082-T6 which is a slightly stronger alloy than the 6061 spec.
It would be a new design to enable the clutch to be worked on without removing the whole cover.
The price would be kept as low as possible and is looking like £295 / $475 will be likely. Please bear in mind the cost of the aluminium billet required as it is substantial.

Kind Regards, Rich Bearcroft

I have clutch covers new in aluminium for the 1986 Honda CR125. They don't show up as the same part number but I haven't tried to fit them on a 1984 or 1985. I have heard talk that they are interchangeable but cannot vouch for that.
Are you interested to make HONDA RACING ignition covers for the 1986 CR125? These will fit the 1984 and 1985.

Hi, thankyou, that cover does look like the 1985 one from the photo I was sent, I will pick it up on the weekend and take a better look.
As for the ignition covers, I am always interested in making parts that are rare as it's great to keep the bikes going, can they be made from billet also or do you want your own castings machined?
Do you have a drawing or photo with rough dimensions, failing that I could get the 1985 one to measure up?

Kind regards Rich.

I had a couple of photos of my ignition cover but now cannot find them.

Thats's fine jt, I will take some dimensions from the '85 ignition cover. Are you looking for an exact replica as you would need a casting, or a billet cover of your own design?

I would like it with the raised HONDA RACING lettering as on my clutch cover. I don't mind billet but it needs to be 'roughed up'. A guy on ebay sell the cover for other models that have been cnc'd then has them bead blasted to look more like a casting.
I will be in the UK in February for the Telford Classic Off Road show. Are you going

I'd be interested in one for my 1985 cr125.. Mine hasn't corroded yet, but I'd rather have the more durable aluminum cover. I'd then feel comfortable putting hours on the bike.

OK Dts, that helps, the more interest the better, I will start making the cad model, hopefully there will be some more interest in making this happen!

If possible, post a thread in the thumpertalk.com "Honda- 2stroke" forum. I've read lots of threads concerning this on that site.

Dts717, how serious is your your interest? So far I have interest in 2 x '85 CR125, 1 x '84 CR125 cover and 2 x '84 CR250 covers.
If you would definately like one if they can be made, that would be enough to swing the first run in favour of the '85 125.

Let me know, kind regards Rich.

I'm interested. Concerning my previous multiple posts, sorry about that. I was struggling with service on my phone while trying to post. Originally I knew one went through, the others didn't show up till later.

I'd post on more forums about the 85 cr125. From my research before purchasing the bike, There was a lot of other interested people, but no source for the part.

Thanks guys, I need to make sure the part comes out right and useable and do not want to get too many people involved as yet, I have decided to go ahead with the '84 & '85 125's as I have definate buyers on those.
Another guy on a uk forum who was selling them at silly money has dropped his prices for the 83 125 an will match me on the price for the 84 250 so we have already had a positive effect and make me wonder why he could suddenly 1/2 his prices overnight.

I will keep you posted, picking up an 85 125 cover today.

Do a o-ring seal for the clutch cover.
1/28/2013 8:20am
Hi Rob, the prototypes are almost ready for machining, kidkawie means that where the clutch inspection cover joins the one in the cad model above that he suggests using an O ring as a seal between them. We will be, so don't worry.
I will post up some more progress hopefully very soon!

I have a friend building some 83 CR125's. I think he has enough good covers but they have all been repaired. Might want to consider those.

I just spent a small fortune for a 1981 CR250 cover to put on our 1982 CR250 as the 81 is aluminum. The 83 250 cover would be a popular one.

My 87 CR250 has been repaired and probably will need to be replaced in the future. I understand the 89 is available and will fit but that supply will dry up one day I'm guessing.

How about a nice beefy billett brake pedal for the 74-78 CR125's. The original brake pedal is a tiny forging that is hidden under the engine and the plastic bushings have it flopping around. Needs to be sturdier and mounted with a bearing. The pad area where your foot goes needs to be more accessible for your boot. I'd buy a couple. There was a company that made them for the 74 CR250 but that gentleman passed away. Here is a photo of the CR250 part, looks like AMS Racing is now selling a copy of it.

Newmann, there is a guy in the uk who has the 1983 covers cast in aluminium already so probably not worth doing thouse for me.
Those levers could be done but again it's how much demand, and could you tell me how much people would pay as they have to be affordable.

Good luck Dave.bonz.9!

Dave cool, you certainly got a lot more bikes in the US than here in the UK, you are gonna be busy if it takes off.

Here is the latest cad model of the billet cover with the clutch inspection cover also fitted to it.

Nice looking parts Rich....I had to rehab the cover on my 1982 CR250 with epoxy a few years ago....otherwise, it was never going to be on the track. Nice to see someone step up for a niche product.

Don't let Dave kid you, there are many of those bikes in the Midwest US as well.....and most, if not all need new covers....

Good Luck!
