Given that power was never lacking on big bore 2 strokes, why the overachiever displacement?
Yamaha YZ465-490 con- rods fit the suzuki crank halves.
And then you have plenty of replacement options , pistons
Etc
Big Cat pistons, rods will also work. -(Artic Cat)
Southern flatlanders most likely have never been on a truly fast
200 hp 2 stroke sled!
Have you ever been to Hay Days?
Do the YZ con rods fit the RM400 crank? I had a 80' RM400 in high school and at some point want to pick up another one. I've read that finding pistons is difficult at best; wondering if your rod trick might be the solution.
The only sled I've been on was some rental POS in the early 80's. A 200hp model sounds like it would provide stupid levels of fun!
When I rebuilt mine last year I called my Suzuki dealer for another part and mentioned the lack of availability for a connecting rod. The parts guy looked it up in the computer and told me there was a rod in stock at a dealership in Idaho Falls. I called them up and it was in my mailbox two days later. Got the last one I guess. I used a Wossner Maico 490 piston in mine.
What was done to the top in to get to 540cc's?

The Shop
Rebuit, new fork bushings, Race tech gold valves
The forks work really well, just setting up different
Preload spacer lengths, I machined up spacers starting
From .5 inches in length up to 2.25 using YZ465 new springs.
Can swap out in minutes per track
Rear rebuilt with stock set- up spring, arms
Have been remachined using Al-Ni-Brnz
It works better than my new Honda, Yamaha I
Have for comparison
I just would like to find someone who has a
Contact with an Ohlins supplier.
The 465 engines I have a completly rebuilt
Top to bottom, new Suzuki rods, all internal
Bearings, even a new clutch basket In the one!
Mac suzuki had 2 rod kits on the shelf, I had
The clutch basket in a few days.
I have enough parts to build 2 more bikes.
The Yamaha rod has the same pin sizes, but
Is 5mm plus in length, c to c or more if i remeber.
Also the 1000 cc twin rods from a cat work.
It gets pretty involved from here. Rebore out the
Crank halves to accept a larger pin etc,,,,,
A guy from australia bought all my spare swap
Over parts for the conversion, I guess that was
2 years ago now
Something similiar
But you have to do the legwork
Look at the Wieseco main data base for
Bore and stroke info
For all mfg 2 strokes, buy up a few used
Engines and dissasemble and see what
You find?
Can get an YZ490 rod kit easily, but how much of that kit can I use?
Micah
But you might consider it will increase crankcase volume, maby its a benefit?
If you find a piston with 5mm lower compression hight(from pin to top of piston) you will keep volume the same as before
