Anyone modified a dt175 engine to race vmx?? We have a 0-200 class in our club. Wonder if a Dt 175 can be built to race cr125s?

What years will you be riding against? I think you'd be better with an old IT175

Had a '75. Have fond memories of the adventures I had on it as a trail bike and daily transport of my early days as a licensed rider. I would have to make sure the statute of limitations have expired before sharing the ones involving a few LEO.

It took a lot of abuse. Don't see why it couldn't be motocrossed against similar machines with dual shocks and drum brakes. Not going to be as pipey as Elsinore but hey, it is vmx and probably isn't going to be a teenager riding it.

My dad built one. GYT porting, head and pipe. Yamaha MX fork/brake/wheel bolted right up

It handled nice, but even with the GYT stuff, it was mild comparative to pure mx bikes, and the gearing is WIDE -- which is somewhat ok, because so is the power spread.

Personally it wouldn't be my choice over a cr125. That said, a guy here has fronted the 125 expert class for years on an AT1, and whatever he has going on in there, the bike rips. So it def can be done.

I race the Potomac Vintage Riders series (cross country) and I certainly think you could make that DT competitive in the 200cc Vintage class. There are several converted DT's that run in that series. There is even a dude on a converted DT100 that races 100 cc Expert that routinely finishes in the top 5 overall ---out of sometimes 60-70 bikes in that wave.

I know you stated VMX , and as far as a 73-75 CR125 Elsinore .... if you are racing SOLELY mx then that bike would certainly have an advantage against your DT, but in a cross country/hare scrambles event ,the tables would be turned.

I wondered if a dt175 topend could be ported and installed on mx or yz 125 bottom of same year.

I know that an MX 175 cylinder will fit on a YZ125 lower end ( because I have one), just not familiar enough with the DT cylinder to answer that with any accuracy. Check the stroke on the DT engine versus the YZ/MX motor and the obviously the bolt pattern.

All you have to do is get in front of the CR guys, brake check them, and the Honda's will be sitting there loading up ,blubbering ,while the Yam motors away. An Elsinore off the pipe is about a 10 HP motorcycle.

I believe the 74-75 MX125-175 and DT125-175 top ends will swap between these models.
