Yet I was always curious about using that motor for a special build, alter the porting and pipe for higher revs and quicker acceleration, lighter freewheel, etc, and bolt it into the latest model YZ 125 chassis possible...I suspect it would bolt right in to anything up to about '87. Do some modern updates to the suspension and I think it might be a damn fun bike, air-cooled and all.
Looking at this pic brings back some of my favorite childhood memories. Like I could close my eyes and it would be 25 years ago and we'd be riding at the state forest a few towns over.
I think i was about 10 or 11 when i was riding an IT125 . It was such a loyal bike , never let me down.

The Blaster is an air cooled non-pv motor. Some of the Blaster guys used to put a 200cc liquid cooled dual purpose Yamaha motor in the quads- that would likely be a nice upgrade for the IT.
85 IT200 One of my Core (never sell bikes) . This IT is probably the funnest bikes I own to ride , race, harescramble or dual sport. If you can find one BUY it you wont regret it. Tom
Thanks! I guess i got the names confused.
It's cool to see how many folks dig these old bikes. I have a buddy from grad school who rode his '85 for four years, parked it under a tarp, and 8 years later ran it with new tires and a carb cleaning. The only complaint I've heard about the basic soundness of the design is the head stay causing cylinder cracking on some that have seen hard use.
This 1986 was a basket case in a box. Completely rebuilt. Great bike! My son likes to ride it. His grandfather owns it.
New OEM front fender
