Hey guys, this is my first post and Im new to this forum. I bought a 93 cr250 yesterday ($650 and engine runs like new), and have been a motocross enthuisiest since I learned to walk. Ive always wanted a 93, or 96 since the glory days of supercross, and like many of you have already done, I want to restore this one and make either a McGrath 94 replica, or 96 replica. Just wanted to see if there are any good places to look for old graphics, and hard to find parts. Any honey holes out there? A lot of the stuff ive been looking for is really hard to find.. Ive had fun looking at all of your builds in this form the last couple of days, there are some sick bikes!! Glad to see im not the only one that loved the 90's!! Any help will be much appreciated, Thanks guys!!

Nice Find! It doesn't look like it was ridden too much.

Thanks CamP, It will need a lot, but I believe the tires are even original on it, I'm looking forward to getting it restored and maybe racing a vintage class with it.

Great find! Personally I'd be inclined to keep it as a 93 with the McGrath theme. I love seeing old school bikes in this great a condition Smile

I think I'll stick to the 93-94 MC bike, maybe ill get lucky and find a 96 someday, and convince my wife I need it too haha. Now if I could only find parts.... Its looking like its going to be a lot harder than I thought... I cant even find a chain slider for it.... Seems like most parts that this bike needs, are not available on Motosport.com, bto, or rocky mountain mc.... (through there OEM search..)

That bike will fit in the Texas Vintage Racing Club's GP4 class, for bikes between 85-93. The GP4 class is the club's most popular class, and the 93 CR250 is the best bike for it.

I saw this bike on CL, and would've called about it if I'd had time to go look at it. Is it really a '93? It was listed as a '92. Either way, what a score. Enjoy it!

Yep, its a 93 (P) 10th digit vin, and 1993 frame tag still in tact. I thought it was a 92 as well until I noticed the swing arm decals were from a 93. I went and checked it out, and sure enough, it was a 93. The guy didn't know what he had really.. I think I got a pretty good deal.

Anyone know where I can find a chain slider for the swingarm, and a rear brake pedal?

I've been warning about the dwindling parts supply for these bikes for some time. The fuel tanks, aibox, shrouds, seats,
forks, shock, linkage, carbs, side panels, etc., etc. are all NLA from Honda. Fortunately, yours looks like a really nice one
that will be a great starting point.

There are parts available from various sources that charge a hefty premium for discontinued Honda parts. Here's a link
to one: http://www.cmsnl.com/honda-motorcycles_model2/

The plastic is still available from UFO in the correct color. Your bike has the original Right side panel. If possible, try to
use that. The aftermarket panels have holes drilled through the plastic for the rubber insulator mounts. New fuel tanks
are available through Clarke and the replica graphics are available through this company:
http://www.evo-mx.com/mall/EvoMx/ or Throttle Jockey.

Since everybody is converting their 92-96 CR250s into McGrath replicas, I decided to convert mine into showroom
condition. As a result, I'll be Ebaying all the parts I took off to convert back to OE. These parts include a Pro Circuit
"works" finish pipe and silencer, Renthal sprockets with the Honda lightening holes, PC oversized footpegs, some
plastic with team graphics, Renthal cloth bar pads, Renthal handlebars and whatever else I have left over. Some of
the tricker parts (Titanium bolts, etc.) have already been spoken for, but everything else will be sold off.

Enjoy your resto, should be a lot of fun.

Nice find! Try HotFoot Moto for the chain slider parts. E-Pay for the beake pedal. Good luck and have fun with it.

Thanks Dogger315! that will help a lot, please put your ebay links on here if possible, Ill probably grab some of the items your listing, probably the pipe for sure. My stock pipe is pretty much perfect, buy Id like a PC works if I can find one.

jzazella - Thanks for the info as well, looks like HotFoot only makes it for the 90-91 cr250... (of course, just my luck haha)

To me, nothing looks better than a mint example 92-96 CR with the original OEM look. It's funny, I thought the 95's were fugly until I got one.

Yes, I picked it up a few years ago to race with the TVRC. These things run great with a little suspension work. The engines are excellent and don't need any mods.

That's a good looking 95, Cam. 1995 had to be the height of the "flourescent" era for all the brands. I had the "Passion Purple"
250 and 500 - both were quite a departure (cosmetcally), from the 94 and the 96.

That GP4 class sounds like a hoot, hopefully it will catch on in other parts of the country.

Thanks dogger. It sure is a fun bike.

Our vintage club's GP4 class usually gets 15-20 riders on the gate and we get to race on some great North Texas tracks. We really are lucky to have such an excellent vintage scene here.

Dogger315 or CamP, do either of you know which 19" wheels will fit the 93 swingarm? Also if 96 tripple clamps will bolt right up? (Looking to do modern forks) thanks.

Honda switched to the 19" rear wheel in 95, so any 95 or 96 wheel will swap in no problem. You can also buy a 19" rim and
spoke set and lace them up to your exsisting hub. Rim size would be a 2.15X19. Honda changed the rear axle diameter in
'97, so 97 on wheels aren't compatible.

Also, the 96 triple clamps will bolt right up. The benefit there would be the ability to change bar mounts and run oversize bars,
and offset.

I'm running a 96 bottom triple clamp w/ 08 CRF450 forks on my 95. Any late model top clamp will fit. I used a PR2/ProTaper top clamp which allows the bar mounts to be positioned much more forward. The stock bar mount locations are way back in your lap on these bikes. To do the swap, I also needed the 08 axle, left wheel spacer and brake caliper hanger. The lower bores in the 96 clamps are .020" larger in diameter than the 08 forks so .010" thick aluminum shims were required, which I made from two layers of aluminum can material.
