Wanted to share my latest project. I've still got a few things to finish up (new rims and some work cleaning up the fork tubes). This was a special bike to me as I got a brand new 87 YZ 80 for Christmas in 4th grade and started racing that spring.
I was given this bike a few years ago and it was about ready to go to the dump. I thought it would be a cool project for my stepson to help work on and learn about using few tools. When it was completed he'd have a bike to ride when he outgrows his 65 and I'd have a replica of my first race bike. It was amazing the amount of cheap nos parts I was able to find on ebay.
The white tanks are a challenge and after weeks of sanding and trying every trick I gave up. New tanks are available but I really wanted to keep costs down.

The Shop
I tried to keep the cost down. The brake line was faded brown and ugly. I got some white electrical shrink tube and covered it. There has been a nos brake hose on ebay but they wanted over 100 bucks for it.
The seat cover and pegs came from eBay. There is a company in Thailand making seat covers for 35 bucks with free shipping. I've got 3 of them so far for different projects and have been very satisfied.
Now you just need to send the motor off to Barr's Competition. I know they did a bunch of YZ80s like this one back in the day, including Colin Edwards' and maybe even Damon Bradshaw
Then I found out that the 84 dg pipe is about 4" too short from meeting up with the 87-92 silencer. If anyone is interested in this pipe or can help me find a proper 87-92 exhaust let me know. I'd really love to find an old yzr/pro circuit.
