Those 96-97 RMs are super unique with the upside down forks so if you are fan of Rm's I would get one.
I agree, you buy a bike for sentimental reasons. But, I must point out, you must be a youngster yourself to think the conventional forks are "upside down". The conventionals came first. So, technically, they are right-side up. Lol.
I'm just busting your balls. It was too easy on this one.

Dam not sure how that happened. Mind you I managed to install a directional front tire incorrectly twice today
My mates brother had a 97 RM125 with the 5th Dragon graphics kit. Me and my mate were always giving him a hard time because we thought it sounded like a sewing machine.
Had a 97 and it was a good bike. I remember it seemed to have a good mid range motor and was a bit meatier and easier to ride than the 96 (had one every year 92-99). Great suspension and really that 96+ style RM has a really modern feel. Can’t beat Suzuki handling and the 125 in the mid 90s was always a good bike.
I rode friends Honda’s too and they were good....but I never felt they were superior to my RMs or that I needed to ride red to beat anybody I couldn’t beat on a Suzuki.
Had a new 97 rm125 after a 96 cr. The cr was faster but the rm brought my riding up a notch. The handling and suspension were so good. Later had a 97 250, awesome as well. Pulled many holeshots on both and never had a major mechanical issue with either.
