My buddy doesn’t do the internet. Not sure what the hell happened here. I’ve never seen a shock spring laying in the middle of the track!!

Wondering what shocks will fit...like up to 96/97?

Bike is original, found this summer. Linkage was greased and tight, bearings felt fine.

Shaft pulled out of the lower clevis. Did anyone rebuild it recently?

I have one with not a lot of time on it since it's last refresh. What does your buddy weigh and how fast is he? I'll check my notes but it's either a 96 or 97 and they were nearly all the same till the aluminum frame came out in 98 on the 125s

Thanks. I’ve done a bunch of searching around today. Seems this is not an unheard of failure on 90s Honda’s. I also seem to be finding mixed info about guys saying you can use the 95/96/97 shock and others saying not to because it’s a bit longer and raises seat height like 30mm. There are some clean looking 95 shocks on eBay cheap....and somewhere around 96 I believe they got high/low speed adjustment.

I guess the linkage breaks and shock shaft normally bends....but totally breaking is bizarre. It was not recently serviced. A barn find bike he got this summer and it was the 2nd ride. Greased everything and it felt fine but planned on doing a total tear down this winter. He’s probably 175ish Intermediate rider.

Looks like a few places on the UK are machining billet linkages.

I have a 93 that I have been riding some, I went through the bike to freshen it up, the shock worked well so I did not rebuild it, just stiffer spring replacement. The bike had been ridden recently by the P.O. ...so I knew it worked ok. If I had a bike that had been sitting a long time I think I would have rebuilt the shock before hammering Motos...Hard to say what caused this but usually worn bearings, shock heim joints ? I was riding mine yesterday, sending it pretty good off some big jumps, it has some wear/play on the upper heim shock bearing.....I think I will replace it & have the shock rebuilt....it’s funny, the whole time I was riding, I was thinking how great it has been holding up...Every time I come back in to the pits I check everything over! 190lbs Sr A rider...I have seen several photos of broken lower linkages on these older bikes...usually the bearings are smoked with a lot of play in the system.26-27 year old bike ..... ... now I”m thinking I should get a billet lower linkage made up...looking at photos better, spring looks ok... what does the lower linkage look like right at the breaks? Pretty thin where they broke...

Sloppiness will kill those lower links since they are just cast aluminium.

30mm = 1/4 difference in shock length which can be easily dealt with using an internal spacer. The high/low speed adjuster definitely is better as they flow better.

RJP motorcycle Ltd. has a Facebook page & eBay store. Has the linkage wishbones made already.
