Got a question for yall. I've been tinkering with the idea of picking up a CR500R. As fate would have it, a friend of mine said he may be selling his 92. Its average to below average in condition. It does run, everything works, I suspect the forks or shock are blown, pipe is cracked, plastic is aftermarket white stuff in kinda scabby condition. Its a 5 outta 10 bike, but it is complete and from what I can tell all 1992 with inverted forks.

I got to ride it a couple years ago and it ran well enough, kicker is sloppy, but clutch felt ok, power felt ok...it just needs a lot of attention and love.

What is this bike worth? I see these things priced all over the place.

That helps. I suspect he'll come at me with $1500. I just gotta figure out if its worth dumping a grand in or if I should look for a $2500 CR500R

Only downside is it has the short ratio trans, I don't find it as a downside personally. I would like to have both versions of the trans but I'm happy. That's a good price to start with, especially if you already know the issues. You can go right into a CRF front end and find a FmF gnarly pipe if you want to expand on the low end/mid or get a PC pipe if you want more top. I like the Gnarly and you just ride it a gear higher and let the torque do its thing.

Get the motor running and clean and it alone is worth $1500-2000.

Amen to that bro!! ... I look online all the time in Mid Atlantic region and I'm amazed at what people list bikes at it's comical. Always $1000+ over what the bike is actually worth.

Welp, fast-forward 6 months and I picked it up off the guy for $1500. Its pretty raggedy, but after sitting for a year, it sure did fire up with just a new plug. I don't even know if it has oil in it, so I didn't want to really rip into it WOT.

Sweet purchase! And I'm jealous of your yard. That would be a 3 to 4 thousand CDN bike in my area!

Nothing wrong with that buy. It will always be one of those bikes that are sought after as a rarity.

You’ll triple your money on that one. CR500s are bringing good prices these days. Great find, good luck building it up. Enjoy!!
