Hey guys,

Was thinking of starting a new project after my 2006 YZ250 (Now YZ315). Always liked the old RM's in the early 90's. What do you guys think of this little guy for about $600?

I don't know enough about these or what they are worth. Looks pretty clean, but no title and a bent front wheel.

Anyone consider this worth it to build? Thinking about making it a mini racer of that era, not just restore.

Only a fool would not save that bike.

I think I'm going to go for it tomorrow.

Trying to decide what to do. Restore to stock with warning stickers, etc...or full on works mini racer from that era. Pretty 50/50 on it.

The good news is that there is a high likelihood that parts from late model RM85's will fit. The engine and chassis both look very similar. I bet over 75% of the parts interchange.

That's kind of what I was thinking on RM85 parts.

Tried contacting evo-mx for the tank graphics but they don't make anything for 80's.

I haven't seen the bike yet, just trying to see if it's worth it still.

Wish I could find a 125 in that kind of condition!

Get ahold of Cernics, I believe they’re in PA. If anyone can locate pieces for that bike, it would be them.

This was the best bike in the class back then. And it didn’t change much for years after. Definitely build a trick period correct racer. We all know how rare clean minis are, this one looks really nice.

First 80 with a powervalve and they rip. I raced the 90-93. They seemed so much easier to go fast on compared to the other bikes...no bog or extra clutch work to keep it on the pipe like the CR or KX (this is 39 year old me trying to remember riding 80s 25 years ago)

That bike hasn’t been abused. I figure anything complete and rolling is worth around 500. Only issue was the forks were soft. Plenty tall but have a short feel to them. Seemed like bigger kids sat on the rear fender. The plastic was kind of dated in the early 90s and more like leftover mid 80s stuff. You can tell it hasn’t been beat on because normally that rad shroud would get hooked on a rut or in a crash and get flaired out.

I just built this 1991 RM80 last Winter. Bought the bike in pretty original condition with blown up topend for $150.

As previously stated, the graphics for the 80's are really hard to find. I tossed a 93 RM125 graphic on the shroud just to have something on there....

I also re-did this 1991 RM125 last winter too.....I have raced this bike several times over the years and actually seized the ring a few years back and pushed it in the corner. Finally got around to redoing the whole thing again and it's all fresh again.

I’ve never dealt with them...but I’ve seen this Australian company has a ton of graphics for some of the not so common models and minis.

If they’ve got the template for these I’m sure they could do the 91 or 92 design.

Somewhere around 96 Suzuki updated the radiator cover...and the new one will fit. Also UFO had some redesigned plastic in the 90s for the RM 80.

Anyone know what kind of cylinder would fit on a 1991 Rm 80 I can’t find one for it thinking maybe the rm85 cylinder might bolt up?

Looks great I think restoring 80,s will b the next big thing. They look cool there small so they take up less space, heck put them in the house for something cool to look at.

Hi

I bought the L.A cylinder sleeve on ebay for my original cylinder and send it to be installed, that will be your best option
the code for the sleeve is FL-5140 (47.5MM)
If you are restoring a 1991 RM80, i have the gas tank decal, front plate Suzuki decal, front fork guards set, white radiator shroud and white radiator louver set all new on ebay.right now.
