Bought this thing for 300.00 but damn what a money pit. Everything needed redone. New bearings throughout. Motor rebuilt with new plated cylinder.

Yeah I'm close to done. Will keep posting pics. The airbow was a mouse nest and pee filled the carb. Destroyed it. Slide was frozen in it. Luckily I had exact same carb with ex same jets in it.

Thanks. Love building old back to some what new. I try to make them as.close to original as I can. Had to use 2001 cr brake lines on it. Finding new parts is a real.chore anymore.

Best way to spend 2k is buy a vintage bike for 300. Good luck with build.

Your bike looks good, I like your work. Are you just using paint for the motor and frame? Are you doing it yourself? Keep posting pics.

Deeeewd! I am loving this!! The '87 KX125 rates up there of one of my all time favorite bikes....I won a bunch of races on one in my last year of the 125 B class, including our Indiana State Championship Race. So cool to see you bringing one back to life, and I am sure finding parts is a challenge. Please keep posting your progress, as it looks like you are seasoned professional builder!! What is the plans....racer? or drool on it in the man cave?

A couple of my "back in the day" pics of wonderful 1987. Note- no bashin' on the mullet!

I did just paint the frame and motor. The guy before me powder coated it Flo green. I blasted it lightly and used etching primer on it. Painted it as close to stock as I could. Easier to touch up paint than powder coating. My son may race it at mid Ohio next summer. Wheels are being powder coat now . I need to order my spoke from Buchanan. Unless someone knows of some stock ones. Thanks for the compliments.

Well it is looking great so far! What color rims are you putting on it? Will you have it ready for Mid-Ohio this July? or you talking 2020? I plan on going again this year, and would love to check this bike out if you are there. Keep up the good work!!

Looks awesome! I'm a big fan of mid '80's KX 125's myself especially the E models. Brings back lots of good memories from my teens.

Thanks for the positive comments. I think the mid 80s bike were the coolest bikes. The development had come a long way. It should run great everything in motor is new and carb was jetted to recommended specs. Love the black wheels. East to touch up and bike looks stout.

I like every bike with black rims but mine. I was so disappointed when I bolted them on.

Got the rims back. As usual Mike did a great job. He's done a lot of work for me and I have never had anything to complain about. Reasonable prices. Especially if you send it to him ready to go. I usually bead blast and scotch Brite with wd 40 then with dawn and water. I'll leave his number if anyone ever needs his services. He does it all. I did a cr250 and he did the frame swing arm and wheeels.

Really didn't pay much attention to the silencer. Thought it was stock. Took it apart to repack it and seen it was a Dmc. Is this a dave miller product?

Thank you. Does anyone know if dmc was a kawasaki specialist or did they make stuff for all the race bikes?

Indeed it is! Made back when Dave was heavy into modded KX's. Nice!

Nice bike! He made a lot of KX part back then, even expanded to a few KDX parts.

Thanks. Just waiting on spokes. Started finding more on net about dmc. I was a Honda guy when I raced. Never paid attention to the kxs even though I thought they looked cool.

I was wondering what silencer was on there from your original pics, but that WF sticker on it threw me off thinking it was some more modern aftermarket. It is an original DMC oval, had that same silencer and pipe on my ‘86. Sweet rare item you have there!
