Anyone have a 1983 Honda CR250 in good shape in the midwest to trade for a 2001 Honda CR250? It was my first bike ever and I loved it. I wish I had never sold mine. " title="Sad">

I've been looking for an '83 CR for a few years now, they are hard to come by. I can only find the POS 84 for sale.

Maybe it's old age getting to me, but that was one of the best bikes I ever owned...

The thing I remember most about those bikes is you could hang on to them with your knees. As I have gotten older trying to hang on to these narrow bikes has become more difficult. Those bikes are still a very competitive bike if near stock condition. Hard to find one that hasn't been bastardized by people replacing nuts and bolts, parts from other bikes etc.

Lee, I love the photos of your son racing the 125. Those were awesome.

[color=#008000:3aa9e]I remember the 84s spitting the piston out the exhaust port . I think they did away with the bridge that year and had problems.
I thought the 83 was tricker looking myself.
I know someone with a 84 125 in pretty good shape that he might sell.
It far from you though[/color:3aa9e]

That 83 MX250LC was magic.
Great low end, lots of torque, nice balanced chassis, turned well with a good deal of front end bite and feel.
Was lighter, and far more reliable than anything Japan had to offer in 83, it also felt awesome in the air.

The '84 spit pistons but you can always stick the YZ 250 piston in there. Makes it a 262 or close to that. Not that I cheated or anything back then, but I know this guy or guys.......... Lee I believe you know the guys to which I am refering to. Troy, Tom, John, Tony all "winners" back in the day.

That clean CR posted earlier looks similar to one owned by AHRMA racer Bobby McClelland. He's got a whole stable of pristine '83 Hondas. Here's a shot of his 125 and 250.

'83 CR's didn't have gold rims, those must be '84 CR rims. But still awesome looking.

I had one of the 495s too......

I think a light switch might have been a bit more progressive than that damn throttle....

Fun in the sand, though!!!!

Sweet pic of the Saddleback table top. I used to love that jump. Seemed to always get a hairy lip on the face on busy race days.

Damn KTM93, I restored one of those a few years ago and (foolishly) sold it. The thing handled on par with anything today and the motor was absolute magic! I still kick myself for selling it.

I bought a used 83 cr 250 in the fall of 83 and raced it for a whole year on a tight budget.

Cheng shin metzler copies and chains and sprockets was about all I had to do to it.

Sold it and bought a buddies 83 cr 125. It was fun to ride but I was 180 lbs and felt very cramped on it. Sold it.

Then in the winter of 84 I bought an 83 cr 480 in pristine condition. Absolutely loved that bike. Raced it up into 88 while I was in school.

Wished I had never sold it.

All the hondas were awesome in 83.

Indestructable, smooth power and decent handling.

That was a unique bike Terry.

The 80's bikes had a kind of [i:39irpnu2]moxy[/i:39irpnu2] that modern bikes just don't.

Rode one a friend has for those Chehalis, the other in Oregon, Washougal, Boise tracks.

I rode it; first time riding in 15 yrs and since droppin dead twice last yr and having to wear this $$$$$ pace/defib unit wire in heart.

Bike was soooo nimble; felt sooo good on turns and still straight line handled pretty good; had motor work done and fast; almost too fast for my fat a$$, slow reflexes. The guy has couple of nice 480's and a 125 from 83 as well. I don't know if he has another 250 and if he did, if he wants to sell, but I'll check. I tried to by one, but every one of you bast...bought them in '83 and they tried to gouge me and additional 400 bucks since it had to come from OK; just went and bought YZ250 '83, but if I had ridden first the CR, I would've waited and paid the extra bucks knowing what I know now. Sooo Sweet while YZ feels little top heavy. First yr of YZ moved mono from under tank and radiator from front number plates. Anyone want an 82 YZ.....lol. Dude's got Phil Larson's brothers Mike's 390 Husky he raced when he tried his hand at Nationals. Says thing handles sooo sweet suspension wise.

Bobby- remember Coleman bros Lance and Larry on those things?

I rode one of those a few times when I used to go trail riding with the late Dick Bettencourt. I owned an XR200 at the time but Dick would have his salesman ride my XR and I got the CR. Our lunch stop was the McDonalds in Plymouth, MA. It was very cool to pull into the Mickey D's parking lot on a full race CR.

Since I've dropped dead twice and now wear a defib/pacemaker in my chest, I got a chance to ride my buddies here in NorCal and I can tell you after many years(about 15) of not riding(helping a Pro) and the near death stuff; I loved that thing and how it handled; it just felt "right".

And I tried to get one new back in the day, the POS shop said it would have to come from OK and I'd have to pay an extra $400....so I bought a '83 YZ250 instead....wish I had gotten a chance to ride someone elses and I would've paid the extra $400.

I'm also looking for one and a '90 YZ250.....the YZ that year was my fav of all time. The Damon Bradshaw rep....I guess to relive what was my best years of my life.

Had to bring this thread back to the top. Why?? Because I just snagged an 83 CR250 today. Complete, all there, all worn out. Came with a new set of bars and grips and new Honda fork boots, seals and dust caps. Also got a Clymers manual all for the okay price of $850.00. Future project, but I'll start collecting parts now. Maybe someone can clue me in on where to get one of those pipes on that sweet ass 250 in this thread. Don't laugh guys, I've started with bikes that looked a whole lot worse!

Geez, newmann, think that's a "great" find. Maybe up close it's not, but the pics show it's quite nice.
