Hey everybody, regarding the stock suspension on the 83 CR480 .. Should I just try and find a pair of 86 or 87 Honda forks and an Ohlins shock?? I guess I just have no idea if going the Race Tech route on the 1983 CR480 forks will get them close to the quality of an 87 CR 250 fork ? Or, throw in the towel now and go find some 87 CR forks ...
Appreciate your helping comments in advance
Cheers 🍻

Go the 87 Fork route.

I believe Steve Marpes posted on facebook he is building 83 CR shocks now. Seems he has found more parts to build with.

You should be fine with the Race Tech emulators and correct spring on the forks. I did this to my 82 250 and it worked wonders. Feels like a cartridge fork (which essentially it is).

heads up on the 83 cr480 outer fork bushings. race tech site says they are available, but they are the incorrect size. when I contacted them I was told over the phone they are now discontinued. I am about 90% done with my 83 cr480 and ended up going with some 87 cr forks, shock was rebuilt by myself with revalved stock stuff. should be done around 1st of the year. I am doing an 84 kx125 right now and an 83 cr250 too.

Did race tech elaborate on what was incorrect? Maybe a simple fix in lathe or belt sander? Any eta when correct ones in? Thanks.

Post up dimensions of the bushing. Lots of 43mm forks made over the years.

Go with the 86-88 Cartridge forks. They are WAY ahead of the std 83's. You can also (with a tiny bit of work) run the larger 17mm Dia front spindle.

On the rear, a decent shock (Ohlins/Race-Tech) makes the world of difference.

If you really want to sort out the rear end we do complete new, billet linkage assemblies for them. They have a longer link (as per the Simons Link) and proper bearings!! No more sloppy worn out bushes and collars!
