Awesome build. Your attention to detail is impressive.

Why does the DG fit-up issue not surprise me. There doesn't seem to be a lot of silencer options still available.

Thanks Bent206, I try to do the best I can, I"m pretty OCD with my bikes....the silencer came with the bike and is in good condition, otherwise I would not be using it... no big deal, I need to visit welder to fab something up for shock reservoir anyway. I don't have aluminum welder capabilities ...wish I did! This era of Suzuki"s with the silencer holding the side plate, the seat/fender mounted together was a poor design to say the least. Suzuki"s are always a challenge, heck, even the Oem parts don't fit good....Pretty sure 81-83 250 silencers all the same, few & far between.

Doing a great job so far Sandman. Looking forward to seeing it completed.

I did a 77 Suzuki RM250 two years ago and for sure, was a labor of love. Cool

Thanks Ow38b....I love the old air cooled RM"s.... Did you post up your build?
Did not do a bike build thread , but you can see the finished product in the bike check part in the 1977 section.

First class restore... From the silencer to the tank decals! Very well done...my older brother and all his friends had this era of RM"'s...Suzuki"s we're on top back then ...for some reason this left a big impression on me...my brother could care less....If I could find a decent 78.5 250, I would .....

I have fond memories of the 81 full Floater......I have a 79 Honda CR250R when they came out. (They were late and I think it was after the 1st of the year in 81 before the boat came in.

Well anywho, my two friends both had them on order and when the finally got them we were at Saddleback at a race. I got a good start on my twin shock Honda and a lap or two in going up a rough uphill, I had one friend pass my or the right and the other pass me on the left both at the same time!

Right then I knew my twin shocked Honda was done for and ended up buying a 82 Honda CR250.

I have been friends with the one friend since we were 5 and he was my "best man" years ago at my wedding and the other friend in my brother-in-law.

Fantastic looking bike, sandman! Super attention to detail and some perfect mods to make it look not only race-ready, but ready to kick some butt. Sorry if already discussed, but what are you going to do with it now?

great job. Isn't it satisfying when the project is complete knowing you didn't compromise on anything ? It's even better that there are few around too

Since73, appreciated the kind words...I had planned it to be a quality restore with no intention of riding it from day 1. I will fire it up & take it down the street a few times to make sure my work is correct. I have plenty of bikes, some are riders, some are garage queens...this is a queen for sure....Thanks!
