1980 RM125 SKF fork seals

Hi Guys,

I want to rebuild these forks although all that is available in 38 x 50 is OEM and cheap seal replacements designed in the 70's,

Can I run a SKF 38P modern Green fork seal, these are still 38 x 50 although the thickness off the SKF package ( seal and dust wiper ) is 3.5 mm thinner, so I am planning to make a 37.5 x 50 x 3.5 mm Nylon spacer to bring the overall package the same.

Can anyone see an issue?

It should be fine. I was looking at what skf has for sizes the other day myself for my RM 125B forks and the seal size was correct but the wiper did work. They make two wiper styles by the way, one that has a lip and one without so make sure to get the right one for your application.

Max skf are Teflon empregnated seals for reduced stiction. Most of the OEM have switched to this type of seal on the modern bikes.

I used SKF seals in a set of zokies a few years back, worked fine.

Thanks,
I will give them a try as i have to get seals and wipers anyway.
They only list one set off 38mm seals and these for Paioli, so the choice is one.

Mr. Corn, the original bikes came with fork boots and not wipers. According to Rocky Mountain ATV they are still available. I have a set under the bench pending install if you want to practice...........

Great little bikes
