I've got a friend buying a YZ250 engine from me for about what it would bring on Ebay. He wants to give me a partially restored 78 YZ80 for what he has invested in it, $200 since he got the bike for free. It has a freshly powdercoated frame, engine was built but has a problem that he hasn't figured out yet. Missing a few small things. it looks like I could make some money parting it out but I hate to do that to a mostly complete bike. If it was a 74 I wouldn't give it a second thought but 78 isn't a bike that was my size. What is the market for a restored 78, Ebay isn't much help since there are no complete bikes either for sale or sold that I can find. What is a clean but not 100 point restored one worth?

I paid $500.00 for what I consider a clean original runner.

Guess that answers my question. I think he can keep it.

This is far from an original runner, in fact it's not a runner and it has a rattle can tank paint job. The parts are there and I could probably get the $200 back plus some parting it out, I just don't know how much I want to go through to make $200 extra.

This bike showed up in my driveway with a bow on it right before Christmas. It's actually in really good condition aside from the read fender. Were there any bolt on mods done to these to increase travel? ie:YZ100 swingarm or shock/forks. My wife wants something small to ride, maybe I'll get it going if I can do something that I can reverse later. I'll post pictures next time I pull it out of the garage.

would love to see it. Spent my formidable learning years on this exact model. always have my eyes peeled for one to restore. here is a pretty cool group dedicated to vintage minis. https://www.facebook.com/groups/348510098837046/
