1976...ish YZ125

Sorry, Mr.Happy. Not sure what's occurred with your previously posted pics. etc? That YZ is a good looking bike. Was interested in your motor work and "pipe-patterns". Looks you've got a pretty good milling setup at home and some competent machining skills. I would assume you are an old-school conventional machinist, probably drawing up those truncated cones (ref. the pipe) by hand too?

Put up the pics !!! the 76 YZs are my faviorites, have you ever seen one the 1976 YZ175s I wish they would have made more of them. I do want to get a 76 125 and do a restore on one, was my first real race bike.

I had a 76 yz 125 used back in the early 80s. I don't remember it having those air canisters on the forks though. Did some come without them or were they possibly removed before I bought it. That was a fun bike.

1976 YZ 125 was my first big bike coming off a XR75. Mine was identical to the one in the picture.
And yes some came with the canisters and some without. Not sure if it was a half year update or not?

It was a 1/2 year update. The 1976 125C did not have the canisters but the 1976 1/2 YZ125X did. I thought they looked cool.

My first race bike . 1976 YZ 125 X . The X not only had the forktop reservoirs , but also had a 520 chain instead of the 428 . Plus the larger 34mm carb instead of the C's 30mm

Some pictures of my 76 YZ125x . Started stock,,but added the DG head,,and mototec ignition. Changed the shock some to give more adjustments. Raced it 2 seasons, and parked it couple a go. Really fun peppy bike. The fenders, and sides are original plastic I polished. The rubber protectors on top of forks and fork boots with little metal screen vents are also and kinda hard to come by. Stock chrome bars. Carb is larger mikuni than the early C model, and the fork sliders have reinforcement ribs if you look closely. Lots of little cool changes mid year Yamaha made.

I had the Yamaha brochure around that year. Had all their bikes in it. I thought those were speedo and tach on top of forks. Lol. I was young.
