I believe the 1974 YZ250/360 as well as the 1975 YZ250 fuel tank is the same except for the color. The 75 YZ360 is a collectible one so do it up nice!

Diamond in the rough! You'll be impressed at the lengths they went to when disassembling it. Not sure how heavy that frame is, but the forks, hubs, engine internals and other misc. bits are so minimalistic, drilled out, milled out.....you name it, it has it. I know my 74 YZ250 clutch basket was billet aluminum. Trick stuff for a "production" bike.

Off the wall question, how much does it cost to make a set of molds and pull some glossy one off parts? My 83 SR500 I got from Howerton needs fresh side panels and radiator shrouds. The originals are a little rough and I haven't found any works nos ones out there. Otherwise I'll be repairing these and matching paint.

Joe, I spoke with a friend of mine who does this sort of stuff (not for bikes) and he said not cheap. Like close to recreating a Fox head not cheap. Creating the mold is the kicker, which is why the vacuum formed rough stuff like DC's gets churned out a little easier

BTW SRP, super jealous. Love those 75's. Prepare to pay for a tank; I'd be shocked if you get one in decent shape in the usual markets for under 200, and closer to 300 may be more realistic. That 76 is super clean; there not worth anywhere near the 75's, however. Maybe 3K to someone looking for that? That's a guess. The 75 360 can go for five figures when they are a 10 point.

Fresh top end is right the molds is where the money is but with that being said not impossible
I can make set of molds starting about 350 dollars for side panels and same for the shrouds ( then you would always have them ) I would need yours to copy them
I have been thinking of making vintage plastic
we do vacuum forming we could figure something out

Has anyone looked into pressure molded plastic production ? It is supposed to more closely mimmick injection molded plastic in its finish qualities ,but keep the manufacturing process near the vacum formed prices.

I have been looking for an NOS 76 Yamaha MX125C rear fender for years. Finally came across one,but it has a few fairly deep scratches. I can not find a 76 YZ / MX125 reproduction fender anywhere. The DC mold is not quite right for the 76 models, not to mention the matte finish.

Who offers a glossy ,OEM type fender for this bike, or who can work my NOS fender to remove the scratches, and put a shine back to it? This is a white fender.

My company just did some research into pressure molding carbon fiber.

It is the same process, the 'shot' that is placed in the mould would be a lot more expensive than a plastic 'shot' (about $30 per rather than $2), but the process is the same.

We were told that a good chromed steel die to produce a quality part would be about $30K to do about 10,000 parts. If you were going to do less than that, you could probably use a polished aluminum die that would be about $15K

You have to have a 300 ton press, which would cost about $100K. But there are a lot of places around (apparently) who would sell you press time for about $100 an hour, and the process takes about 40 seconds to make a part, so you could do a lot of parts in an hour.

But you would have to make a lot of parts to offset that die cost.

Here's a pic of my 75 YZ360 I've owned for quite some time. I get tired of just looking at it so every so often I get it out and ride it. It runs like a banshee.
