I have this bike that my grandfather bought brand new. Two years ago I bought it off of him, and set out on a journey to make her run again, and as of two days ago it hadn't run in 16 years. It took about ten minutes once I fixed the seal to get her going again. My happiness was short lived as it began revving uncontrollably, I shut off the fuel, and it stopped. I have been doing research, and I know it's something called a runaway two stroke, I just have no idea how to fix it, so here I am. If you have any ideas, I would love to hear them.

Sticky carb slide or an air leak ?

From the outside, it looks like the carb is fine, I tried the throttle cables. Where do you think the air leaks would be? I'm not a mechanic, I do know some things, but I'm not what you call professional.

After sitting that long the carb should be disassembled and cleaned but I'd at least unscrew the cap and spray some carb cleaner in there. An air leak can be anything from a cracked carb boot to bad gaskets or seals.

If the slide is closing completely,,you can here it clank when snapping throttle. If you do,,then I'd be looking very closely at the intake boot for dry rot and cracks,,possibly cracked right beside the clamp,,,then move onto the base gasket under the cylinder on each side of cylinder for signs a portion is missing or out of place,,,then if the first doesn't show any signs for a air leak,,pull the ignition cover and see if you can spot the seal on that side is popped out,,,or dry rotted. Pull up and down on the flywheel and feel for looseness of the smallest amount..when mains get a little sloppy they let air in around the seal,,even if seal is not rotted. Dribbling some oil back there on seal and restarting will calm the revs for a moment and show you found it. Spraying wd40 on the intake boot on potential cracks will do the same for a moment or so.

Make sure the petcock is not clogged from sitting. The problem is either to much air or not enough fuel. When a 2 stroke runs out of gas or is not getting the fuel it needs it revs high for a number of seconds or so.

I've got another quick question, my dad and I tried to get it to shut off immediately after it started revving again. I dont have a kill switch, and we had to bypass the ignition. What would be the best way to kill it besides fuel selector, just incase it starts again

Turning off fuel will lead to a lean out,,,exacerbating the revs and potential seizure. Don't work on this bike until you got a actual kill button

Depending on what occurred to make it rev a kill switch might do nothing.

If it is an air leak or lack of fuel it will have a lean rev and might even diesel (run without spark). Best way to kill a lean burn is remove fuel or add load. Since it is lean it won't have power. If it occurs again let out the clutch slowly when the motor starts to load up it will either die (lean burn) or try to move, if it moves then your throttle is most likely stuck.

My first bike was a TS185, yellow tanker. Is yours the blue or yellow version?

Mine is the blue with a white stripe. I've seen yellow, blue with red stripes, but mine is the only one that ice seen with white. What year was yours?

This is just a picture of the bike for 450exc115, and a picture of the carb with throttle all the way down.

The carb slide is reversed. Only goes in one way and the cut back section of it goes on the airbox side.

I don't have a picture but it was a 73 that was yellow with blue writing and stripes. My buddy has a blue with red/yellow/white details.

I have a factory hop up kit on a LOP modified RM125 with a TS 185 motor in it for the old 175 class.

Fun little bikes

Looks closed or at least on the idle screw. You should hear a metal wack when the throttle closes as that tells you it hits the stop

I hear it. Should I try to get her goin' or wait for a kill switch?

She started, and ran perfectly. Only problem is she leaks a lot, I assume the seals are crap. I'm gonna take the carb apart, and figure it out though, if there is a way to put a video on the page I will put it up. Thank you all for your help.

Get a clymer manual. It will help you with working on the bike. eBay should have one used for under $30

I have the owner's manual somewhere but I will definitely look into the clymer manual, thank you.

It's the most beautiful sound I've ever heard. She started up and died twice, and then ran almost perfect. Idling is a little rough, but she runs great. If anyone wants to see the video it's on my instagram @justnjp21
