I always struggle with looking down at my front fender to much and making alot of silly mistakes. How do you guys get yourself to continue looking ahead instead of getting caught up with whats directly in front of you?

I used to struggle with this too, I started just going riding with the sole purpose of looking ahead, not trying to go fast just a slow pase to get used to looking ahead, after some time doing this , I found it easyer to do while racing!
It helps a lot!

I think this is fairly common. I found when I was a novice racer I did this all time and I attribute it the fact that I didn't trust my suspension not to deflect off of the small trail trash. Once I got my suspension working well it would soak up the trail trash my confidence increased and I eventually learned to ignore the small stuff. This allowed me to look ahead for the next obstacle/corner and better lines.

I guess my point is that it isn't something you have to focus on. If you ride and practice more you will start going faster and looking further down the trail will happen as a result but you have to trust that your bike isn't going to doing anything unpredictable.

Might not work you, but when I go practice I will ride a 30 minutes session in the woods standing up not trying to dab a foot or sit down, and look ahead, seems like when I stand up it is easier to focus on looking farther ahead

Maybe try Slowing down...as slow as necessary to comfortably look ahead...repeat until it feels natural (until it feels weird to look at your front fender)...then gradually increase your pace?

All good answers! I appreciate all the suggestions. Gotta put some work in the bike with looking ahead

Tape a 20oz water bottle under your helmet's chin bar.
