First dirt bike

I am 21 about 5'11 and 190lbs looking at getting into my first dirt bike. I just want something for trail riding at my dads place in northern michigan. I was looking at the klx 140g and the crf 150f. Would either one of these be a good bike to start with or should i look into something else?

You will quickly grow tired of either of those bikes...imo. You are probably a bit tall for either also.
Look for a good used 125 2 stroke or 250 4 stroke. Both are plenty of bike to keep it fun but not overwhelming.

The problem i was running into with used bikes was that no one had the title for the bike.

Unless you have a feeling the bike might be stolen, I wouldn't stress over the title on a $1,500 to $3,000 bike.
Get a bill of sale. Shoot a picture of the persons drivers license with your cell phone.

Okay, thanks for the help. I have one more question, do you think a crf 230f would be big enough?

Technology hasn't moved very quickly for this group of bikes, because the market doesn't really expect it to. In saying that, buying an older bike, with low miles is your best option. Reply if you need more details.

If you haven't tried any dirtbikes before. I would strongly suggest 2-stroke 125. It would make you ready for bigger bikes. Either a YZ125 or a KTM125. You can check out bike specs on Enduro21 or Dirtxtreme .I would suggest that you move from small bikes to big bikes rather than jumping to 250s. But you still have the final decision :D

Those bikes would be ok to start. What you really need is something you can grow into like a KX500 or a CR500. Bare in mind any dirt bike under 500cc is a girly bike so best to start with a man's bike from the beginning. If a 500cc has too much power for you at first do what most guys do when they can't handle the bike they own, detune it with a flywheel weight and put an auto clutch on it.

if its ur first bike....which means you have no mechanical experience with dirtbikes... get a 125cc 2 stroke. either any 2000+ yz125 or 2010+ ktm 125....... looking in that cheap price range with 250 four strokes its a problem waiting to happen for the most part. SO many of my friends get so kept up in CC size and ego size, either because they think their Gods on their cbr600 or r6 street bikes or theyre just stupid.
Every person I know who bought a 125cc 2 stroke as their first bike is still riding.....every single one of my friends who bought a 250cc 2 stroke or 250cc 4 stroke has quit riding. The 4 strokes were either in terrible running condition and they didnt know how to maintain it. Or the weight and size of it made it hard to ride, let alone my friend who crashed his bike 30 times in 1 day and had to kickstart his poorly running 250 four stroke his right leg was so tired. them 4 strokes take like 10 kicks more than a 2 stroke on average after a tip over.


MORAL OF THE STORY, BUY A 125CC 2 stroke OROROR the only option is a crf230 or ttr230 (larger in size, reliable 4 stroke motors that are less high maintenance than the 4 stroke mx bikes)
REMEMBER.... you can always sell this bike a year or two from now and buy another one. You dont need a big bike ur first time out, itll end up making you have a bad time riding than an enjoyable one.

I would highly recommend a 125 two stroke. Try to find one not abused. Maybe from a older gentlemen. As you develop your skills, the 125 will still be a fun bike.

If you are only 21 then without having a complete motorbike insurance you should go for any adventure. Maybe you wouldn't like some restrictions or pieces of advice from elders but I am saying it with great honesty.
