What is the best way to share video online with family members? For instance I have a video from a family vacation to Italy and Germany and want to share it with a couple of family members not the world. Around 45 min. worth of video.
Also rather than having everything on the tape and having to play it through the recorder, what would be a good way to store the video in digital format rather than on the mini tapes?

The file size would be pretty large for decent quality and you won't be able to make one 45 minute file and transfer it through photobucket or sites like that (but, I think you can break it up and make it private, then share the video with just those you want to see it that way).
Analog is analog and the only way to make it digital is to play it and record it with a digital device. If it's a DV tape, there should be a USB or some type of transfer port from the camera to the computer, and I'm not sure if that works in real time or if it transfers faster than real time.
From there, you can convert the file to various formats to reduce the file size. The encoding should be h.264 for max compression versus quality. You can do this with a variety of programs and file extension types. The most common is probably MP4.
Go to the video screening room, you might find more answers.
