I was surprised at how quickly they came into tune and stayed.
How do you guys do it?

That's the way my dad taught me, so that's the way I've always done it. Except on my Les Paul, I take all the strings off at once and clean the bridge every time it gets new strings

I didn't realize there was another method besides that one. That's the way I've always done it.

On the Strat I have slots and a hole down the shaft. It's a vintage style. Fender wants you poke the end down in the hole and then just start wrapping it around the post. It works.

I like the new method (old to some of you) better.

I'll do the same with the Paul but I just don't play it much. I should though.

Looks like you have too many winds. The string is doubling up, which can present another tuning problem.

Yep, less winds on the larger strings. The tiny strings I wind like crazy, but the big ones don't require more than about 1.5-2 winds

I have three Strats, I use the floating bridge on two of them, and the third one I put a block of wood behind the bridge so that it stays in tune a little better

And on the two that have the floating bridge, I add two more springs also (5 total instead of the standard 3), but that's only cause I run thicker strings and those ones and tend to have to tune it more if I only have the standard three-spring setup

Floater for me. It came with that setup. I don't really have a tuning problem though. I have more trouble with the Paul.

I can't believe I've never learned that in over 35 years of playing.
