If you used a case on your original iPhone, be aware it may affect your new 3G

I used the DLO Jam Jacket w/cord mgmt

It seems the 3G has two (2) facial sensors to black out the screen when talking, while the original had one (1) sensor.

This additional sensor and I suppose reconfiguration of location is being disrupted by the case, making it impossible to hang up the phone when completing a call (screen stays blacked, thinking you're still on phone)

Otherwise, new version is awesome.

GPS is spot on and you can satellite google maps while in GPS and see movement, it kept up to 45 mph no problem, and that'd be a testament to the 3G speed.

Feels a bit lighter and the smoother edges make it feel smaller

New AC wall socket plug is smaller

Browser seems to cache a bit more when "going back" on the browser.

Black version gets very smudgy quickly

I regret getting black and will exchange for a white

Dave, I got the black 16gb yesterday. I went to a local Apple store yesterday morning and during the checkout process Apples communication to AT&T crashed. It only upgraded on AT&T side, but wouldn't on Apples side. Long story short I was there 2 hours that morning before having to leave for work and 2 hours after work. I had the old version and was just simply upgrading. Everything now works except voice mail. I haven't figured out why it isn't at this point. Apple was nice and very helpful as was I given the circumstances. I know network failures can happen.

On a side note, they gave me a mobile me subscription for free for all the problems. I may need some help understanding and using it. Do you like it so far?

I am still learning MobileMe
I was hoping I'd be able to use the 20GB storage to use to attach stored docs to email sent from iPhone, that does not seem to be the case.
I'd like to see that change.

It does wirelessly (sp?) sync your iPhone, MobileMe and your desktop/laptop from anywhere. So if you add/edit/delete anything in your calendar or email, it does the same to everything else within seconds.

What is also neat is the photo upload feature...
Example: You are on a trip to say San Francisco, you take a picture of the Golden Gate, you can then send that photo up to your MobileMe account immediately and people can see right away...you can quickly and easily do a photo blog of your trip on the fly
You can stand in the pits at a race, take a pic of a bike or rider and get it online in your account faster than GuyB can get it on Vital...it is instantaneous.

Yes

You can have them all sync automatically, so all your mail, appointments, datebook, notes, etc...are all exactly the same at all times, no matter where you are

Did you get applecare? I personally didn't, I never seem to keep a phone for its full mfg warranty.

If they offered apple oops, I would be all over it!!!

Wasn't that impressed with mobile me. The mail account only lets you set up pop accounts and no imap so I guess I'll stick with google mail. The contacts I can get on google. The calender I can get with google. The Idisk is cool but there are plenty of free ones out there. And the photo, well you have picasa, flickr, photobucket, and about a thousand others. Plus it was slower than shit. I'll give it some time to mess with it but not real impressed with mobileme so far. The syncing is about the only cool thing but even that was giving me problems yesterday such as when I would add an event on my iphone calender it would not show up on my desktop ical.

Apple made a mistake in trying to launch too many new things all at once and it overloaded the people and equipment...simultaneously launching MobileMe, 3G and 2.0 all at once was a lot to ask for of your people and equipment

I'm eating @pf changs in oak. The line at the apple store wrapps around the entire shopping center. I'm still tempted to try and get one today.

I got it to finally work. We have a old computer at his workstation. I just took the phone back in my office-redid the update and it worked so his phone is all set now. Maybe had something to do with the usb ports on his older machine.

Gotta admit. Apple and AT&T really fucked up on this one. They really bombed. There was a lot of new customers for apple because of the price drop and it probably didn't make a very good impression. Not a good way to start out.

I don't think the mobilme has totally migrated from .mac. Still don't have homepage back. You may get your wish Dave when it's fully up and running. Apple acts pretty quickly with high exposure stuff like this and they have the cash and resources to do so,

Yeah, that's why I'm being patient

PUSH doesn't seem to be working yet either, or at least it's very spotty

The me summary page has a status report to confirm what is running well and what's not.

Patience certainly has a different half life today.

I did figure out an end-around on my issue, which is to create a public folder on MobileMe to contain items needed to be emailed regularly, for example; product MSDS, logos and images
and then I could remotely email that link from my iPhone, allowing anyone requesting it to download it.
While I realize this isn't what I wanted and is something that could be done on any web domain, at least the MobileMe system makes it easy to set up and do.

So it's a temp fix at this point I guess

Tells you something when Apples eff up is front page news and another Microsoft eff up is just the norm.

Dave, can you attach it out of email? I'd think you could just drag or copy it to the email.

Not that I can figure out

On the Mac, no problem
On the iPhone, how do you drag and drop anything?

How about, email yourself from your Mac with the attachment in your email. You can then forward it to whomever you want. Would that work?

I was happy to see we can now save images from our iphone email box to the phone.

I think emailing a link to a web folder would be easier.

Probably faster too, as there's no upload or download on either end of the mail
