good truck to get my bike to the track.

Sooooo, i love mx!!! and i am getting my G2 soon and have around 5500-6000 to spend on my first vehicle. at first I always wanted to buy a BMW, but that wont be able to tow my bike. i am looking at trucks such as 2005 dodge Dakota, 2005 Chevy Colorado, what i am looking for in a truck is 4 doors, 4x4, and has decent gas mileage, what would be a good truck to buy??

These guys wont know what a "G2" is. Tongue

Buy a full sized truck. You'll be happier with the room and the fuel mileage difference is negligible if you get the right engine package drive it easy. As teamgreen says, 5.3 Chevy is a great engine.

Agreed. The 4.8 and 5.3 engines are rock solid and will easily run 200,000 with routine maintenance.

The Colorado is honestly a horrible little truck, not recommended. I'm not sure about the newer Dakota but the older ones with a V6 were a turd while the V8 was a running SOB and got average mileage at best. Maybe check out a Toyota Tacoma?

Yeah I've got a 2002 Dakota with a V8. Decent truck but the mileage is not that great. Kind of a clunky trans also.

5.3 w/ Fuel Mgmt: The ONLY Full-Size Trk I'll apporove for the company at this time. We're pickin' up nicely equip'd '11 1500 Crew's...loaded-cloth or leather...no nav/sun-roof...sub $30K OTD. All discounts in-lieu of 0% and we get a 2.5% from our bank. Full depreciation inside of 3 yrs/the trucks are usually gone...to an employee's driveway....by then.

Most trucks cost us approx. $12K for 3 yrs/120K mi. of service (a bargain for the use we get and the virtual -0- maint. we pay...jus' oil and tires, Belts and Trans service at 60K. Some trks get 80K on the stock tires) We usually let an employee buy it out.

When we DO sell them...we get to take that $12K number down to $8-10K....nice.

BTW, unless you tow like a Mo'Fo...Diesels are SHIT! U can take that bottle of Urea and keep it. We're even going to gas trucks for Chase in Baja!

Note: About the 5.3 rule...I'm a complete fuckin' Hypocrite 'cause I just ordered a 7.2 and a 6.0 for me!

DOH!

It's a 318, so 5.2L. 4WD. I get around 16 mpg. Mainly highway driving.

for no space, no pwer, and a rough ride, and poor fuel economy I recommend the following.

Tacoma
S-10
Sonoma
Ranger
Dakota
Colorado

A good full size truck would be best. You can buy a used dodge for less than the others.

You may want to think van. Your budget will get you a more reliable vehicle.

The 1500 Chevys w/ the 5.3 are great trucks. My '03 is about to turn 140k miles and it's never been in the shop. It still has the original break pads! It's 100% original, with the exception of the tires, and everything still works...knock on wood.

Yes go full size for sure. The Chevys seem to get the best mileage. I have a 1994 ford ranger and it is a gas hog. Wish I would have been able to afford a newer Chevrolet. That said my ford has 190,000 miles and is still going strong.

I have an 05 extended cab Colorado and I dont have any complaints about it. i can easily get 2 bikes and all the gear needed and if I need I can get 3 bikes and I can tow a trailer as well. Also Im getting pretty good gas mileage with it as well.

Get a 5.3L Silverado. Preferably from an old man that bought it new. You'll thank me later.

what about a ford f150??
Get the 5.0...the 6-T looses it's mind when towing and can really burn fuel.

a 1500 chevy or gmc with either small v8 would be your best bet for the price range you stated in your first post. I love my 08 hemi ram but would not recomend it to someone on a limited budget for fuel. I average 13ish in the winted and 15ish in the summer but have plenty of power whenever needed. any dodge/ford in your price range will be worse than that. If you were looking at new trucks i dont think you could go wrong with any of them. they are all very nice.

I can't argue with the 5.3L from GM, but stay the hell away from the 2007 with the AFM!!!!!! These fuckers are using oil(up to 2 qts per 2K miles). We are averaging 1 a week in the shop. Any other year is fine.

You may also want to look into one with a 4.3 V6. Those engines are bullet proof and have a suprising amount of power, even in a full size.

anything but dodge really:

and 4x4's suck, get a 2wd, preferably a ranger, if you want great aftermarket support.
