external illumination (christmas lights)

Edited Date/Time 12/3/2018 6:27pm
Trying to get a feel around the country how Christmas lights have grown or dropped in your area? Do you guys hang lights outside? I am 35 and when I was little it seemed like every house had them hanging up (I loved it) but driving around yesterday I noticed maybe one house out of 30 had them hanging these days. Is it just to expensive now days to buy and hang? Is location a big deal with places that don't get snow? etc......

I have a friend right down the road who is absolutely obsessed with the christmas display at his house. He has all kinds of crap in his yard. I think it looks tacky as hell, but they think it looks great and post a time schedule when the display will be turned on. Then every Jan 1st he calls all us neighbors to come over and help him take down the display.

Dont get me wrong, he is a great dude but its some strange shit...

We put lights up. Several people in our area do as well. I'll post some pics up when done.

I would say 60% of houses in our area put up some form of lights. Even if its just something small. The new projection lights have been a huge hit for me! I'm done decorating outside in about an hour with these bad boys.

The wife hired them out last year and now they just magically appear and disappear this time each year.

I used to hang lights but I use like 10 of the laser light displays now. I set it up in about 15 minutes. Most of my neighbors do something for Christmas.

My neighborhood goes all out with Christmas lights. As I get older I question why exactly I'm risking my life standing on the 2nd story in 20 mph winds. Then I see the look on my kids' faces, who are also wondering why I'm risking my life standing on the 2nd story in 20 mph winds. If they knew how large my life insurance policy is they would appreciate it a little more.
