I just think it's a weasel-word. It's the kind of word a person uses to describe something as offensive without going through the trouble to say why it's offensive. I think it's used thoughtlessly most of the time.

I only use it point to an anticipated problem

i.e. It may be problematic for me to use this word as often as I do being some are annoyed by it.
