So I think I have a buyer for my friends CR500 Dual Sport that I restored after he passed away last year.

The guy lives in the Bay area and he found me on Facebook, he wanted to wire transfer me a deposit and ask for my bank info. I was hesitant to do that and instead used pay pal which he sent a $200 deposit and it went through.

He is arranging to have a transportation company and pick the bike up and when the guy shows up he will send me the rest of the money.

So I talk to some people and they said pay pal is not the best way to go that electronic wire transfer via the bank is the fastest and most secure what do you guys use?
Thanks

This sounds too much like every Craigslist scam ever.

He will send you the money when he picks up the bike. Then when he has the bike he will dispute the payment with PayPal. Typically PayPal favors the buyer so the money you received will be tied up and maybe even gone forever. Meanwhile your bike is definitely gone forever.

No way would I do it.

Oh Man you guys are not giving me warm and fuzzies..

how else do you make deals when the guy is in a different state and is not gonna pick up the bike himself?

In his defense he found me on one of the MULTIPLE CR500 FB pages I've been advertising on..

Been getting a lot of enquiries a lot from Australia guess these bikes real popular over there anyway hes not going even ride the bike he's s gonna add it to his 30 bike collection I guess hes a Honda freak and also a dual sport freak and he just bought a 89CR 500 a few months ago from a guy on the East Coast.

He owns his own contracting construction business and I looked it up seems legit and the trucking dispatcher he works with also spoke with me that he had a CR500 delivered from the East Coast and was kind of shocked that he wants a dirt bike in a covered trailer just like he did that one.

I also told him I have boxes of spare parts some new and a spare rear wheel he said for me the go ahead and keep it and sell it and make a few bucks if he was really a scammer wouldn't he want me to throw that on the truck as well?

Thanks

A guy who really wants the bike will find a legit way to pay you. The fact you are having to spend any time on is a big red flag.

I would use a place like western union. He pays them. You go down and pickup the funds. So western union holds the money. That’s far better then pay pal.

But do not release the bike until you have your cash from western union.

Skip this deal. There must be a local with cash in hand, it just may take longer.

As already said, this is every scam on internet want ads. Skip it.

Updates
So yes I agree its easy to create a fake Facebook/Internet account or whatever.

I asked him to take a selfie of himself in front of his collection of motorcycles and a picture of the 89CR500.

He had previously told me he had just bought a 89CR 500 from a guy in Massachusetts and if I want the number I can speak to him.
I declined at the time but after reading all this I asked him for the number today.
I spoke to the guy and yes it was a Massachusetts area code and he had the same concerns as me.

Steve, wired the money to his bank and his wife went to pick up the cash and then they loaded the 89CR500 ON the truck.
He said he's a good dude and legit.

More of these boxes are being checked off.
I'm gonna have him wire directly to my account like the Boston guy did.

Thanks

He also volunteered to put another $1500 in my PayPal account which he did today.

As far as taking cash only, nobody in Arizona wants to pay what I'm asking for it.

Best of luck with the deal. There are good people out there that do what they say they are going to do.

Go for it. That’s as legit a deal as you’ll find long distance

If he’s actually interested and knowledgeable about the bike generally it’s a go.

I do wire transfers at work 1-2x per year. I have never had any issues. From the time papers are signed, the money is usually in the other persons account within 12-24 hours. Based on what you have said and the interactions with the buyer, it sounds legit. Best of luck.

Truck showed up Thursday from California to pickup the Bike, couldn't believe the size of the trailer to transport a dirt bike! Woohoo
Driver delivered two Mustangs to Gilbert AZ.

He made three separate deposits into my PayPal account and I transferred them to my bank. Two have deposited and the final one (done when the driver showed up and he talked to him) will be on Monday as they go by business days.

Sad to see this incredible machine go, but she's going to a good home and won't get abused. It was actually just what I waited for a guy with DEEP pockets who had to have this bike and that is what he told me when he saw it.
I had offers from all over the world, but really did not want to deal with the logistics.
The Aussie guys pay BIG BUCKS for these bikes as these bikes were imported there.

Pre staging

Thanks guys 👍

Glad it all worked out! You can’t be too careful dealing with strangers on the internet. Too easy for people to just fake everything, scam you, and you got no recourse because you don’t have any accurate info on who the person really is. It’s a beautiful bike by the way!
