This past Saturday my son, his friend and I were scouting for a evening deer hunt and came across this track. I have an idea of what I think this belongs to but they are very rare here. What do you guys think?

Coyote.

Edit: Where is Greenville, Ga.? They're very common around central Ga. we even see them hanging around residential neighborhoods. Funny, I was just talking about coyotes with a coworker about 20 minutes ago.

Greenville is central west Ga. This was at Army Corp Property at West Point Lake. That track is about 3.5" wide by about 4.5" long, that'd be one hell of a yote!

That's either a big Coyote or a dog. (Unless the OP has Donald Trump hands? LOL)

I almost said Cougar...but You can't usually see claw's on cougar tracks, and they aren't usually as "pointy"...but who knows.

4.5 inches long is in the wolf size . Judging by the location ,I would say great Dane out for a walk.

I did Google image search cougar tracks in sand and they are very similar, which is what I was leaning towards. In 2008 a hunter actually shot a 140lb male cougar not far from where we were.

That's one animal I'm glad we don't have in NY ,I give tons of credit to the people out west who hunt the mountains with those fuckers roaming around.

Are you able to leave out a trail camera in the area?

If you were in the Rockies, I'd say a wolf, given the size...but where you're at, its either a large dog, or a cougar (with atypical claw marks on the toes).

Nice Cat. Was it in tree's? We have many cougars along river systems. Although rare, vary rarely seen. They do surface occasionally. Seen big male 150' from kids playground, last year. Blink

We don't have Wolves here either, I would think less likely than a cougar?? That being said, anything is possible.

According to the guy that shot, it was on the ground. He was in a tree hunting and it walked up under him.

Too big for coyote, wrong climate for wolf. It is a mountain lion, cougar, puma. See quite a few around my parts and they are becoming more common. Have two right (black and golden) by my house quite a bit lately A dozen or so dogs have gone "missing".

Got some paw print pictures somewhere. Ill post when I find.

I didn't read the other posts so if redundant, accept my apologies.

My Dane's paws are already that big and he's not even full grown yet. Smile 11 months, 165 lbs. Their paws spread out when they walk, more so when they run.

I agree it's possible a Dane could leave print that large but they don't typically roam around in hundreds of acres of back woods in the county.
